DDJ-400 Cross fader problem

Hello,

I have had my ddj-400 for about 6 months now and have not been able to get the crossfader to work at all. Is there a preference I need to set it to in order to get it to work? It did not work from the moment I unboxed my controller and now I'm wondering if it is a hardware problem. How should I resolve this? Any help appreciated thank you
