Both USB ports work independently, the difference between them is that only the 2nd USB slot can be used for recording.

The dual USB slots
Curious about something. I don't have a unit to try this on... I have the RX2 on pre-order. I'm wondering. If I have songs prepared through Rekodbox on 2 different USB sticks (two different sets of songs), is it possible to go back & forth between them on the XDJ units? Or is the second slot only for recording? In other words, if a song is playing from USB1 and I need to play a song from USB2, is it possible to switch and segue into a song on the other stick seamlessly?

No, the 2 USB slots are there for more flexibility.
You could even work with just one stick, play 2 flies and record at the same time. (Tested it successfully on the XDJ-RX)
Nevertheless, I’m using both slots to spread the hardware stress (latest USB sticks can become really hot) and to have a backup. Just in case.
