When you formatted it, did you also set the drive to Master Boot Record instead of GUID? The drive would work in the computer in either mode, but would only be recognized by Pioneer DJ hardware when it has MBR.
I am using a macbook pro *version right before HIGHsierra* with a 32gb SanDisk USB 3.0 stick.
I tried formatting to FAT32 and had many errors transferring songs some being half missing or skipping during playback.
I formatted to HFS+ format and tested a playlist this morning and it seemed to work perfect so I unplugged my usb stick from my xdj-rx2 and sync exported the rest of my playlists and it seemed to work but when I stick my usb stick in the xdj-rx2 now it says error no device?

I am pretty sure, but will re-check when I get home...would unplugging the usb from xdj cause it to corrupt ? Also if i get this to work and stick with HFS+ format will that work on xdj-rx2 & cdj's at club setups?
You could certainly corrupt data if you disconnected it while it was in use, without pressing and holding the STOP button until the LED stopped blinking.
Yes, you could also use HFS+ and it would work fine.
I definitely turned the xdj-rx2 off before holding the stop button and disconnecting the USB that could be my problem, will check tonight. Thank you for your help!
