CDJ2000 NXS2 jumps to middle of track

when i load a track from any USB on a CDJ2000 NXS2, the waveform immediately jumps to around the middle of the track

I press play and the track DOES play from the beginning but the waveform stays static.

In Vinyl mode, if I then jog forward the track playback then jumps to the middle position and the waveform starts moving !!

I then cannot jog backwards forwards or press PAUSE or CUE and have to press TRACK BACK to stop the track or get it back to the beginning.

What am I missing or what has gone faulty on the deck ?

The firmware is right up the latest available version
