CDJ 3000 USB settings / Mac / ex fat etc / Problems live performing

1.  When a USB is inserted, does the 3000 Automtically Load the Settings saved from Rekordbox onto that USB, OR does the user have to manually press 'load' to load all the settings from the USB

2.  The mystical question that no one has answered on the pioneer forums. Including you pulse mate.

Mac users >  WHATS THE BEST USB format settings for a USB thats using rekordbox on a mac?

the 3000 is a little more sensitive than the NXs2 in regards to USB settings, ie ef fat / dos / fat32 etc

clarification on these 2 very important questions will help people.ALSO save DJS who usually use a USB in a NXS2 WITH NO ISSUES, ONLY to turn up at a club with the same USB and it fails to load / operate or work on a CDJ 3000. due to mac settings..

The settings load is a manual process - in the event another DJ is using that CDJ already (eg. in a back-to-back situation), the intent is not that their current preferences would be overridden if you inserted your USB drive into that player.

The best USB formatting, if you only ever plan on using a newer product such as CDJ-3000, XDJ-XZ, or XDJ-RX3 is exFAT as it's cross-platform compatible and has error correction whereas FAT32 does not.

If you need to use a NXS2 or anything older than above, and you're Mac-only, then go with HFS+ (macOS Journaled Extended); it too has error correction.

FAT32 is the worst of the lot and is the fallback.

Had you loaded a new song to the deck (3) when that was happening? If so, the hot cues may have been retained from the previously loaded track, but if they were from the prior DJ and their drive was no longer connected, it could have caused a weird fault-state where that data couldn't be found but the memory was still intact.

This is speculation as I'm not clear on the exact details for what happened / when.

thanks Pulse .

another pioneer tech said to follow the following, can you concur or do you disagree?

  • Choose a name for you dive in Name
  • Format: select “OS X Extended Journaled” for HFS+ or “MS DOS FAT”
If you choose FAT, you only can use 32GB of your drive if your drive is larger than 32 GB.
  • Scheme: select “Master Boot Record”. IMPORTANT!! (you will miss this option if you selected the partition instead of the drive in the previous step).
  • Now click on the “Erase” button below the formatting options.

thanks for your reply, BTW, and for explaining the mechanism in relation to  ' satefty' mechanism in place for when we load  USB, we have to physically press 'load  settings '

another question for you,

have you ever forgot to press ' load settings ' while in a club or live setting?

is the ramifications of not pressing ' load settings ' that you would be at the peril of whoever has set the settings in the CDJ, ( for example ) a sound company or another DJ?

would their settings for the CDJ be the 'main' ' master' settings?

if you had hot cues, coud, this cause BIG problems?

kind thanks.

im actually asking for 5 people now to save time all of them senidng in various posts mate

You want to format the DRIVE not the VOLUME, so yes - the instructions were correct on how to format; be aware that formatting will destroy all data regardless.

MS-DOS (FAT32) with MBR is required for drives used for firmware updates, any other drive capacity with any other partition scheme and file system is fine.

Yes, I've forgotten to load my settings before and accidentally loaded a song to a playing deck. I have my preference for load-lock enabled. ;) It's not that it would cause a problem, more of a nuisance.

thanks Pulse..

i have a scenario for you ( something that recently happened )

USB was loaded into deck 2, also manually loaded settings

in deck 3, the link was activated. forgot to manually load settings....

im assuming all the hot cues might of been not able to work work properly.

as when i tried to iuse hot cues on this deck, it was like a record was jumping, it was that horrible sound all DJs dread.  and coming from a CDJ was weird.

in your opinion do you think that the ' jumping sound' was due to USB manually load settings had not been activated in this deck ( deck 3 )

the CDJ was responding strange.. is this due to the previous DJ's settings, or, the actual CDJs settings in ' menu utility ' on the CDJ

yes deck 3 had my new loaded track, This was the deck the previous DJ had their USB in, i loaded my USB to deck 1. ( CDJ 3000 ), I linked the USB to dec 3, however Pulse, like i mentioned i dont remember actually pressing to manually 'load' settings from the linked USB.

FX if the previous DJ, had slip mode on, and other settings that I dont use in my set, would / could this cause integrity issues while mixing...

all my Hot cues could of been mixed up or not loaded as i didint call them....

imagine you and I was back to back, or you was taking over after me,

my USB and main Utility settings were loaded in all 3 decks..

you loaded your USB into deck 3, ( no track playing )

in the stress of the moment, you forgot to 'load' all your settings from rekordbox,

would your tracks all be at the peril of my 'load' settiings, due to my settings being dominant and the last loaded settings...

If you manually load the settings to the deck when you insert your USB stick, it won't affect the other DJ or their settings. Also, keep in mind that a song playing is not affected by loading your settings.

i think we are at cross purposes....  i have dispexia and might not be making myself understood prooperly.. let me try again.

If i load a USB to a deck, and forget to load my USB settings, what are ( in your opinion ) negative ramifications or possibilities that could go wrong..

FX, could the DJ before me OR the CDJ itself implicate itself to my USB.

so if i have forgotten to load manually my rekordbox settings, potentially the CDJs 'own' internal settings would take precedence.... or the DJ before me, his or her settings would still be in the CDJs menu / 'brain'...

hope thats clear mate

Jeff,

No worries, sorry if I've confused the situation! Thanks for taking your time to try and explain.

If the DJ before you had loaded their My Settings to the deck, they'd still be in effect (just as the deck's default settings would be active even if a DJ never loaded their My Settings). There is nothing that would affect your content - the worst thing that would happen is that you expect result X and get result Y (eg. autoloading hot cues doesn't happen, the Auto Cue is not enabled, the deck is in CDJ mode).

Nothing adverse can occur.
