DJM800 Send/Return Changes Cue Sound

I have a DJM800 and an RMX-1000 in send/return.

When I toggle on my send/return, the RMX-1000 can have nothing toggled on, but the cue sound is altered. It sounds distorted in a way, almost like it's crushed. Is this normal? When I listen to my monitors, there is absolutely no difference when I toggle the on/off.
