HELP RECORDING sets on a Zoom H4N

Hey guys, I just bought a Zoom H4N and I run anm RCA from the REC OUT on the DJM800 to the LINE on the H4N yet cannot get recordable sound. Somebody please help me, it's driving me insane! I've tried using the bottom inputs but it says use LINE for mixer output!

Am I correct in understanding that you're going from an RCA (REC output on the DJM) to an XLR (line input on the H4N)?  I'm thinking the problem could be your cables / adapters.

G'day Pulse,

Just a Red/White RCA to a line on the H4N... line in is the same size as the RCA

To the lines/output jack, 2nd pic, far right above volume... in the user guide it has a pic of a DJ mixer going straight in there.

I previously also tried a 1/4 to XLR out of the input jacks, no dice either :|

I'll politely point out where it says "Phones / Line Output Jack".

The picture of the mixer is if you're sending the signal out from the H4N.  ;)

Ah, that explains it! So I'm figuring I need a 1/4 XLR that turns into red/white RCA to plug into the record out?

Much thanks for the help!

Either that or use the booth output and go 1/4 to 1/4 (as the connector on the bottom of the H4N is a combo-jack.

I have a question I am a professional sound supplier and i just bought the H4N and i want to use it more than just a recorder as the in built mics works great. I want to take the output from the H4N(via the jack out) and put it in the mixer and then to my speakers and everywhere. I tried connecting it to the mixer but as i increase the feeder the sound quality got real bad(But the headphones sounds great) HElp please. can i use the headphone out as input to mixer?if so how without distorting the quality

@harsh > I'm interested... What are you recording that you will want to play live out over the mixer directly from the H4N?

Indeed, it is important that what you are recording is not distorted in the first place or thats a no-win scenario.

What you'll want to do is connected the output from the H4N to an input on your mixer. Then you'll need to increase or decrease the volumes on both units (the recorder and the mixer) until you find the sweet spot.

@Gavin> Thanks for your reply. I am actually trying to do a live drama using the H4N as the built in mic quality is amazing, it catches even a pin drop. I did adjust the volume on both but the inbuilt mics are ultrasensitive condenser mic its not letting me increase the volume on the mixer also the quality gets dropped. i just want to have the same headphone quality in my external speakers is that possible?

@harsh > Agreed, its a great unit. I use one for video production. Its going to be hard to get the quality absolutely spot on using this method. Do you have a CDJ-2000? If so, you could remove the SD card from the H4N that contains the recording and play it through the CDJ (wav format is supported).
