Now, I've been DJing years, and was speaking to a mate of mine who's been in the game years too. We was talking about how each of us mix, but he was basically calling me a cheat.
I do what I believe a lot of DJ's do. I cue both tracks (I use a DJM 600), and use both ears with both tracks playing. I only use this whilst beat matching, and so that I can pre set the EQ's incase both are bass heavy etc. Personally for me I find I can get a much tighter mix this way.
Now, he was saying this is cheating. He's been a DJ much longer than me, but says that I should be using one ear, and only the 1 track cued and use the monitors to hear the other track. Yeah I can do this, but I can get more precise mixes doing it the other way.
I made a point to argue that most so called DJs these days rely on Traktor and auto beat matching. So his argument isn't even a valid one.
What's with people calling it cheating? I've heard others say it in the past.
