@lee > Any connection will do; balanced XLR and 1/4" TRS are best for long runs (over 20 feet). I use 1/4" TRS because the booth output is an easy send to the speakers.
sdj 08/djm 2000 cables
can anyone help please? do i use a male xlr to 1/4" trs from speaker to mixer? is this the best connection for sound?
thanks pulse ...what do u mean by long runs? how far the speakers are from the mixer??..so what do i need for laptop to speaker?
Lee, From what I remember balanced XLR or 1/4 TRS from the mixer to the speakers can run over 20ft to speakers. Once you get over 50ft in cable you will start running into delay issues and need a way to compensate the delay to said speaker or amp.
If you using the DJM-2000 with a laptop why dont you connect the laptop usb to the mixer and use the internal sound card? You can also use other sound interfaces, or staright audio from laptop can be accomplised with a mini 1/4 headphone jack to RCA to the mixer.
Once conected to the mixer then XLR or 1/4 from master output or booth to speakers:)
Hope that helps:)
cheers tom appreciate the info!!! at times i want to be able to plug the speakers into my laptop for other uses!!! what cable would i need?
@ Lee > There are many ways to accomplish a connection from your laptop to your speakers. It also depends on what input you have on your speakers, or amp. Inputs might consist of RCA, 1/4 inch, or XLR. It really depends on what speakers/monitors, or amp your running the laptop to.
1st Option - having a external sound interface. Can be a simple m-box, or other sound interfaces - They either run usb, or firewire from your laptop. The sound interface will then have outputs to your speakers, monitors, or amp.
2nd Option - DJM-2000 mixer - running usb from laptop to DJM-2000. DJM-2000 can then run to speakers.
3rd Option - Buying a mini 1/4 inch headphone cable to RCA - this will run from the headphone jack from laptop to a rca input. Depending on speakers you might need a 1/4 inch or xlr adaptor for the RCA cable.
Hope this helps:)
