[SOLVED] SDJ 08 link cable not working

Okay so start to finish here is my problem.

I've had my 08's for over a year now (out of Warrantee) and I LOVE them, like I actually might by another set if these ever die off completely.

MY PROBLEM: When everything is hooked up the way it should be, the remote volume/standby control dial only controls one.  I tried changing the master and slave units so that they were swapped from the original configuration and that fixed the problem temporarily.

Now the problem has happened again with this new configuration and swapping them no longer fixes them.  What would be my best course of action seeing as I have to set the volume separately now on the back of the units which is not easy to get at.  And they always stay powered on because I cant reach them easily to turn them on and off.
