Need advice - about migration of files

It appears my PC has decided its had enough and the hard drive has packed up.

Along with my file system my music and of course my programs.

Ive decided at this point to upgrade my kit and software to run Windows 7 opposed to XP.

The short of it is im going to have to rebuild my database and file system to suit. Can i take the files from my SD card and import back to the pc in such a way all of the tags and information still remains?

If i view the card on my computer its all broken down into artist folders which is a bit time consuming to sift through into a useable archive on the computer.

Can anyone give some thoughts on the best way to recover a working system without too much of a headache? I do have saved database files but i'd assume on a new OS the file locations will differ.

@Simon > Sorry to hear about that failed hard drive - I had the same experience only this week on a 6mth old MacBook Pro.

Where you able to recover anything from it or is it totally dead?

The best solution I can think of is you drag your music back on to your new hard drive and then import it into Rekordbox. Let Rekordbox analyze all the tracks again etc. Then plug in your SD card and select the tracks with the hot cues / loops set etc. Right click (PC) on those tracks on the device and then select 'Update Collection'.

If you do have all the database files saved, I do believe you could load them onto your new hard drive and then point rekordbox to look there for the data.

This thread might be of use to you: http://forums.pioneerdj.com/entries/20658308-migrating-your-rekordbox-database

As you can see, there is a change in the path structure from one OS to the next.

Ok bit of an update..

my PC doesnt like windows 7 dispite upgrading the hardware so im back to XP sp3.

I now have rekord box 1.5.2 installed and working fine. I looked to try and drag tracks back from my memory card tothe pc but with the file structure its stored on the card - it might take me days if not weeks to suss out where i had stored them before.

I have however got about 80% of my tracks backed up but ive not re imported them. Is there no backwards step to take from SD back through rekordbox to its original location or location of your choice?

I have started importing new stuff into rekordbox in the meantime which  is working fine.

@Simon > Sorry, there is no process to restore the music / organization from the USB device back to your rekordbox library; you'll have to manually do that.
