try looking at firewall and virus settings, anything you used to allow in the past may have reset in the new install,

its something to do with the fire wall? if i disable it, then 1.5.3 works fine, when i turn it on again, it doesnt,   i checked in the 'allow a programme or feature setting and everythng to do with rekord box is allowed, i cant understand why it wont work?

@aaron > The Windows firewall is a fickle b!tch.  You've proven yourself that disabling the firewall allows the program to work as expected, but re-enabling it causes problems.  When you previously configured it to allow the rekordbox traffic, that did not transfer to the new installation as each program version is managed separately by the firewall.  As @BriChi linked, the video discusses OSX but it still covers the four connections you need to allow through your firewall.

The problem is that by default Windows firewall configures firewall rules on an application executable basis. Since the new version of Rekordbox has a new executable, the firewall will ask or needs to be told the new rules. It would be better to configure the Windows firewall independent of the application, based on protocol and port numbers.

I think Pioneer should consider implementing automatic firewall configuration  in Rekordbox. I do know that there are applications which configure the Windows firewall for you. At least, that was possible on Windows XP, not sure if this is still possible on Windows Vista and up. If it is, Pioneer could save users a lot of trouble by automatically adding the exception rules to the firewall.

@Pulse: "@aaron > The Windows firewall is a fickle b!tch."

This is true and I can attest to it (but the same thing can also be said with the RB driver?)

Just installed the new version of RB into an HP laptop running 64 bit of Windows 7, and it totally, totally refused to link with my DJM2000 until I disable the Windows Firewall.

My Desktop computer with a quad cpu, 8 GB ram and running 64 bit Win7 Ultimate however, doesn't have this problem. There, I have the Windows Firewall up and running 100% all the time. Go figure.

P.S.

Multiple file permission copies of: 'ProDJ Link NFS Server', 'ProDJ Link System Manager', 'rekorbox program file', and 'edb_streamd' exist in the firewall page. It builds up over time. Looks like the program has no good 'house keeping' function :)

@ pulse, can you type the 4 connections i need to allow through the firewall? i can only see 3 and cant figure  out the 4th :S  or maby do a video showing what to do in windows firewall?

@glaseye2   i agree that RB doesnt have a good housekeeping function, after playing about with the allow programme or features function, i now have maby 50 different RB in my firewall ! ( of which there are 3 different types)

@aaron     I played with it too. But without proper documentation it is hard to figure out a 'working' combo - which file needs a 'Private' or 'Public' permission and still allow Firewall running.  I ended up removing all the entries, un-installed the software, and deleted the RB folder.

In short, started all over again by manually installing the latest version of it . . .   :(

Hello aaron elliott and Pulse.

It seems like rekordbox 1.5.3 does not support streaming songs to the CDJ's over a network share (UNC path).

The songs can be added (form a network share), played and edited inside rekordbox and probably exported to a USB memory, but LINK will not work.

aaron elliott, where are your songs stored?

Pulse, can you confirm this?

@andreas B        im not very good with computers, i dont know if my reply is an answer to your question, but i save my songs to desktop and import them to rekordbox and send them to the djm2000 via lan cable, RB1.5.2 works fine, (im actually using it now) but 1.5.3 will not work, even tho it seems i have the same settings??

Okey, this is very odd.

1.5.3 works on my laptop with songs on the network share but not on my other computer (my new one with a fresh copy of RB1.5.3) This is very odd because on both i have firewall disabled and antivirus is not installed (both runnign windows 7 x64).

They are connedted to the same switch and both can read the files but only my laptop can play them tho LINK.

So i dont think rekordbox have a problem with UNC paths (windows network shares) but there seems to be a bug in 1.5.3 that makes this happen for some reason.

Im getting the same error as you aaron on my other computer ("new") computer.

Network shares are not officially supported - partly because the amount of traffic generated within the ProDJ Link can potentially cause a disruption on the computer network.

@Andreas > Have you tried running local files instead?

@aaron > Have you checked your firewall settings?

Pulse:

Yes local files works on my new computer, but not file shares. (then i get the same error as aaron elliott)

On my old laptop local files and file shares work with rekordbox 1.5.3.

And this is on the same network (only wired) with firewall off and both running windows 7 x64.

Its a bit odd right?

@Andreas > Did you migrate the database from one machine to the other? Or were they fresh additions of the songs to each?

No migrating. Fresh copy of RB.

I tried later to migrate RB form my laptop to my other PC but i could not get the beatgrid info (all of my manual beatgrid tweaking) to migrate over, a quick question: how can i migrate so that the beatgrid info also get over?

I really hope for a good export and import in the newer versions of RB, this is really important. It takes a lot of time to edit the beatgrid and as it is now i cant export this information so im stuck with using my old laptop.
