Because with wifi there is a greater potential for drops in communication whereas your USB device should be connected at all times in order for it to function.

[SOLVED] Why can USB media not buffer but WiFi-read tracks can?
This has been blowing my mind lately. I have been using the rekordbox app on my phone with 4x CDJ2000Nexus. I can load tracks from my phone on ALL FOUR decks over wifi and each deck will fully buffer the track so I can totally turn off my phone and still mix with full CDJ-functionality (hot cues, loops, etc) even 30 minutes after being disconnected from my phone.
Why is this not possible with USB? It makes no sense.
