This is the deal cruncher for me.
I am aware it will connect to a computer wirelessly, that it does not have a ethernet port that would allow pro link connection and that it has a usb port on the back to connect to computer and be used as midi controller / sound card.
my question is: can it connect to rekorbox running on computer thru usb ?
this sounds much safer than using wireless (as practical as it is for mobile devices, i would prefer a more stable wired conection)

I am sure it can. I will be using my Aero wired when it comes tomorrow. I never bought the Aero for the wirless that it does, it's just a bonus for me that it does do it. I plan to have mine wired to my pc using Serato most the time.
my question is: can it connect to rekorbox running on computer thru usb ?
I'm going to vote "no" to this being that RB is all ethernet and wireless based, you cant run RB through usb on a cdj2000 so I doubt it can happen on RB,
Vote? I vote yes, does that mean its even. just kidding. So the only way of using WAV's & AIIF's is to put them on a flash drive? If this is a case i think they have missed a trick. boo
LOL,,, even means we win!!
yes, from what I have researched, wav's and aiff's have to be played via a usb device, it cannot be streamed wirelessly, I could be wrong though, I dont have one to test but this is what I have been looking into
thank you BriChi,
i was indeed asking specifically about rekorbox operation thru usb ;)
i think it is a documented fact that the usb port is there on the back to allow for hid/midi controler operation
although i am curious, mark, you say you plan to hook it up to serato, is your plan to use it as a hid controller for ssl ?
i assume it is not to be used with serato intro wich i am not sure even supports the aero as it does with ergo
also like gary stated, if there is not wired connectivity option for a laptop it cripples severely anyone using losless files,
i dot really understand the passion pioneer has for mp3: first it was cdj 400 that would only play mp3 from usb, now its rekorbox wireless operation (one of their "flagship" features, that works only on compressed files, it does not even provide option to compress lossless files just to transfer and edit on mobile devices....)
I haven't got one myself, but I will tell you that the AERO will not connect to rekordbox via USB just as the CDJs do not; they use the ethernet connection, which the AREO doesn't have, thus it must use wifi.
damn, aero appeal is diminishing with each post...
after fighting for some years with lazy serato as developer i am so eager to get back to pioneer (was a cdj dj since 2000 to 2008),
only to find out it seems to have turned into another crappy software developer company, making silly mistakes in their software implementations like this one...
ps: pulse, pls dont get mad at me and my posts,
i just say stuff exactly as i see it, i watched serato declining in the last 2 years because they did not care to listen to their users and now they are loosing them for good (not talking about me, obviously;)
i would much prefer not to see the same happening with pioneer just because of some bad engineering decisions (either in hiring the wrong people or just managing their projects specifications and or results)
if you do have any reporting about user feedback, this is unquestionably a huge misstep they did right here,
i canot believe the wifi router that is inside the aero would not allow for a ethernet port, no matter whatever any engineer tells you to reply to us...
Honestly, having used it myself, I can tell you it works just fine over wifi. Don't discount it just for a lack of ethernet port.
keep in mind that even if it works flawlessly over wifi,
it wont work for those like me that play mainly lossless audio (wav, aiff)...
thats the main problem about the wifi only limitation
to be honest, in my specific case this is not really a deal breaker:
i am anxious to ditch the laptop from my dj life (already use it for almost everything else in my life) so i expect my main rekorbox usage to be off usb stick or sd card (by the way, sd card option would also have been nice to have, maybe in future higher end product, hint hint...)
but being able to use rekorbox directly connected would also be nice either thru ethernet or usb
(again, i am sure this will be possible in some future xdj product, as long as we ask for it;)
@Nonnus - there's nothing stopping you hooking up a regular usb drive (not usb stick) to the aero and playing your lossless files exported from rekordbox from that and using you phone/ipad for browsing...
sure, thats what i meant with using a usb stick or sd card (personally i dont need to use a hard drive, nor would i want to take one)
but we are talking about something different here :)
So let me get this right. I can load all my playlists to a portable hard drive, pug it in to the aero & select & load tracks from this drive from my MacBook pro?
Something I was unaware of ... the limitation of WAV / AIFF over wifi is ONLY for iOS devices; likely due to an Apple restriction more than something Pioneer has chosen. Android devices CAN stream those formats.
@Gary > You'd have to export them TO the drive then connect the drive directly to the AERO itself. I don't believe you can connect to the AERO to rekordbox over wifi, but I'll have to confirm that.
as a longtime ios app store developer (i created the first midi controllers for the iphone in 2008) i highly doubt there is any apple restriction to the use of wav or aiff files in any way, at the most app review team might ask for some alternative transfer system to be implemented if they had too much problems transferring music files (which by the way could be much improved by allowing itunes file sharing on the app)
this was most likely a developer decision (either pioneer or the developer company used to develop the apps) but i would advise you to get more detailed info about it before making further statements on the topic ;)
in any case, does this mean that when connected to a mac running rekorbox, lossless files operation is possible ?
in the product description the access to files on pc or mac seems to be stated as a feature: " In addition, the included “rekordbox™” music management software for DJ play enables DJing with music stored inside a Windows PCs*3 and Mac. (...) *3 Requires PC with wireless LAN functions or wireless LAN network." (http://pioneerdj.com/english/products/djsystem/xdj-aero.html)
@Nonnus > As I said "likely" (my guess), but as it works with Android, I wouldn't expect it's a limitation of the app design.
If it does indeed link to rekordbox, then yes, it would be able to play lossless directly from the computer or connected drives.
i was aware it was a "guess" :)
that is why provided you with extra info that only developers active on the app store can know and give you as i know you are usualy very careful and precise in your statements
i also did not try to imply there was any "limitation" in the app design,
if i would have to bet i would say it was a decision made that had to do with storage (ios devices have limited fixed amount and android devices can use removable media like micro sd cards)
True, it could be a storage thing, but I also have a 64GB model iPhone 4S and have plenty of room for music as compared to the 32GB flash drive I use... lol
It only bloody works.
Wav's over wifi from my Mac to the aero. I can delete all the tracks I converted to mp3 in haste. Win
