Pioneer XDJ-Aero - 1st impression

I just received my XDJ-Aero last night! The outer box is huge! The inner box still large comaring to the size of the unit! Of well. It must be providing extra strength during shipping.

I like the quality and compact size comparing to my previous equipment: Behringer DDM-4000 and Pioneer CDJ900. In my opinion it is good for djing on a small venues, where they don't have CDJs and a proper mixer. Great for "bedroom" djs.

I hope software will soon be upgraded to use hot cues. If the equipment is Rekordbox certified it should be possible to use all the advantages of the program. You can't use more than one effect at a time which might be a disadvantage, but maybe when you use Traktor internal mixer you will be able to it?

I don't like the built-in samples: horn and siren, but it is just my personal opinion, and in the manual it is not clear how to upload or record your samples unless I didn't read it carefuly.

You also can't use a deck sample when you play that particular deck. In my opinion it is a big disadvantage.

Also manual makes everything complicated when taking about first connection of mobile.

I don't know why Pioneer didn't release any bag for it, yet!? I would like to take the unit to a gig this Saturday and really need to put it into a box.

Great unit when you want to connect turntables, but I'm not sure if it is suitable for timecode or I will need to buy interface? I didn't connect it to Traktor yet but I wonder if it will be possible to use a few Traktor effects the same time. I can't really think how th level could be operated as the Aero does only have one knob.

Pioneer wanted to provide equipment which let's us deejay without computer but it takes away a chance of seeing the waveform. It is a big disadvantage.

When you play a track over mobile rekorbox you cannot choose a new track and analize it before loading. You can play it but it won't be analized. So during a gig if somebody asks you to play a track and you play it, unless it was analized before you won't be able to do it. Rekorbox cuts the stream when you go to track edition. Disadvantage of mobile rekordbox.

All the knobs are good quality, faders work fine. No crossfader problem which appeared in some of the new Pioneer DJM-T1 units.

Headphones soundlevel is good.

Just got my areo!!!
After selling my Cdj-2000's & djm-800 due to moving house & lack of space I don't regret one bit. With the extra cash I also got some s-dj08's & boy they are good.
I can live without the wave form & the pitch bend on the job takes a bit of getting used too. Sample bit seems like a gimmick but all in all very happy. :-)

Thanks for your feedback guys!

@Szymon > The reason you can't use a sample during playback on the same deck is the ability to scratch, loop or pitch that sample and manipulate it in the same fashion you would a song.  As such, it's not just a straight "sample drop."  There is no ability to customize the samples (yet) but I have been informed that there should be a future update allowing you to do just that.

When used with software, you would be able to do whatever functions the software supports, for example within Traktor, using multiple effects.  This is because the AERO would then be acting as a MIDI controller and soundcard rather than processing the audio effects onboard the unit itself.

As far as I understand, the unit would not pass timecode to the souncdard; the inputs are strictly for direct output, they are not run as an input to pass to the software.  You would require an interface box or simply use the controller jogs themselves.

There's no bag yet but it does fit in the bag for the S1/T1 (Jay has been carrying his around in it).  It's a bit big, but it works.  There are also many other controller bags from 3rd party manufacturers which will fit the AERO.

There are some nuances with the app, as you point out, but if someone asks you to play a track, you could always run the analysis via import first, then play it -- there are very few requests I'd ever play "RIGHT NOW!", meaning I'd have the opportunity to analyse the track first.  ;)

Been playing with my new toy & think the jog wheel pitch adjust is a little to sensitive. Should be a setting to change this. One tiny nudge & the beat go at least a beat out. Any thoughts ?

that's true. it is different from CDJ 900 in example but probably you just need to get used to the feeling and sensitivity of it.

Since my beloved cdj900's and djm900 are to expensive to drag around to gigs, i decided to get myself an Aero too and travel light with only 64gb usb stick and ipad3. Got everything working, fully PC less, works like charm, genius product. Now i do need a good, bag, the DDJ bag is too big and the ERGO bag to small and both have those weird bumps to support the laptop hole, the Aero hasn't got
So i guess my question is, when is the Aero bag coming? If spending €200 on a bag, it better fits like second skin.

I have the same! Still waiting for a bag. Many shops are offering the DDJ bags but they are too large! I don't need extra 10cm! I don't need laptop pocket! I want a thin bag or backpack!

I'm still sorting out the best way of searching for tracks in my HDD catalogs. I have lots of music there and started using my iPhone to do it. iPhone of course has to be connnected to mains as lasts only for approx 2-3 hours. Scrolling is not very fast in iPhone but maybe with the upgraded rekorbox it will be faster.

Pioneer is quite slow with releasing firmware update probably becasue they are releasing new controlers. Where are the hot cues Pioneer?

I'm using Corsair 64gb USB3 sticks, prepared with recordbox on laptop
Very fast exporting on laptop en ultra fast loading on Aero
Got 2 of these, so 5 years beatport collection + dance classics + top 40 on the go, WITHOUT LAPTOP

people who don't understand the Aero concept, lost the plot, no more laptop needed and still sync buttons for ultrafast high pace party mixing. Only thing lacking is the perfect bag.

yeah, I'm using HDD connected - stores much more music. the problem is searching as I don't remember what I have in which folders. if there was SEARCH button on the mobile Rekordbox it would be much easier.

Hi guys, (DJM800/CDJ2000 user here) getting really tired of lugging my gear around and the XDJ-AERO seems like it may be a perfect fit. So if I understand correctly, currently there is no way bring up stored memory points/loops and hot cues? Am I crazy to sell my current gear in favour of this?

no hotcues, just leave your other set at home and enjoy lightweight agility outside, i would not give up my CDJ900/DJM900 combo either

but on the avg birthday/wedding i can perfectly get by with the AERO

Hmm...what about memory cue points? Thanks for answering J.J.

It uses the cuepoint at start of the track, so it skips the silence, but i did not find it arming on any 1st cue elsewhere in the track

Here is a little first experiment, with my 19month old daughter on my lap who likes the aero too http://wtrns.fr/5z-1aDHdG9jaaW so some places out of sync or some unwanted buttons pushed but you'll get the overall idea. Aero fx are cool and transform samples into rythmic instruments
