XDJ 1000 - Discussion

I have looked at this earlier on today and got a little excited, then looked again at lunch time and got a little less excited.

looking at the unit it is a very basic concept and i think could be the start of things to come so will wait for the XDJ 2000 or whatever flagship model pioneer choose to release as i have never bothered with the Nexus due to not wanting to pay for the few additional features and also having failures in a live environment on a few occasions.

I still have my Mk1 CDJ2000s and love them dearly and am hard pushed to part with them but i will admit i am now looking forward to pioneers future developments.

I agree, I liked the touch screen and got excited but then i looked it over and noticed whats missing and why it's $999

no adjustable platter tension

no illuminated platter (which i personally like)

can't link hardwired to laptop for RB, I don't trust a wireless connection to play live "if" i wanted to play off my laptop

no digital out

no SD card

I would want to test the search feature but if it searches the same way the 2000's do, its kinda useless in a way for me anyway, you can only search an exact word or string of, you cannot type in random parts to narrow down like """"show me rob" to bring up show me love - robin s. I would have to see it in person though to clear up that assumption

BriChi, how is it limited to just wireless instead of wired for RB? Isn't the switch acting the same if it is wired, or wireless?

@BriChi   There will be one in Chicago on Thursday December 4 at a Pioneer DJ event showing new gear.  I would say go check it out and see what you think then.

yes, I am not 100% sure, Im thinking of how the R1 is, you can only link to RB over wireless, Maybe they allowed a hardwire link too for 1000 directly to the Laptop, I am not sure, the way I read it it seemed like it can only link to a laptop via wireless, i could be totally wrong though

The usb is used for midi and sound card use not to use for rekordbox linking. Rub links strictly through a network port or wifi

all am i missing is a touch screen instead of physical controls, I know where buttons and knobs are without need to look at them, I can't imagine using this live in a club, I'll spend all of the time looking at the screen to be sure of what I'm doing, to have the right function selected, and to press the right portion of screen at the right moment.. I'll stick to my beloved 900nxs all the way!

While we all knew a CDJ with no cd's was gonna come out sooner or later.. And I think we all knew they would put a touchscreen on a player sooner or later.. This new player really does nothing for me.. I like the cd slot for back up or if I just feel like playing cds. A touch screen doesn't excite me either. banging on a display for loops and cue points is something i don't want to do.  Plus finger prints on my gear.. LOL I like the feel of a button. Even if they made the platter like the 2000 nexus and gave it a SD slot etc... No CD slot, No sale for me... IMO the cdj 2000 nexus is my final purchase for cdj's. There isn't anything else Pioneer can do to it to make me want to purchase new players. To me the 2000 Nexus is the perfect CDJ. Even if they add a touch screen it won't make me purchase new players. I don't think night clubs would swap out the nexus players for a new player with a touchscreen either.. I think Pioneer has reached its limits with the CDJ... IMO. This player is great for new dis that can't afford the big dog player and are going to stick with RB or dj S/W.

maybe you have a smart phone and have noticed that you are always getting better at making text messages? I think you could get good with a touch screen. I wish I could afford a pair of XDJ 1000's but I am sticking to vinyl because of budget. soon I will be purchasing Stanton str8.150's. I have a pioneer DJM 800 that I got new for $400 and I love it. the point is that the XDJ 1000 is a powerful CD player that has record box and a USB so you are good to go. i think the touch screen is a good idea cause its more functional. also you are getting a proper professional CD deck.

After looking at this product although it looks very nice and i do respect the fact that its bringing Djing back to the decks rather than the computer but the major fault i am beginning to see is that this type of product is basically cancelling out the mixer. If you're gonna go down this track and make this kind of product then why not just add the cross fader/gain to each deck and **** off the mixing desk if not then STOP putting mixer funnctions on the ******* cdjs. Instead make a better mixer!!!! All this **** you guys are putting on these machines are wrecking what essentially is Djing and instead making it easy to just push a ****** button!!! Now days i can control nearly everything with my phone, Djs are becoming a thing of the past because they are not necessary. Cant we got back to a day where the DJ had to work for his money by being creative on the spot  not just pushing a few buttons?

@Matthew > I have to respectfully disagree with your statements. The XDJ-1000 is just as much a player, and no more a mixer, than a CDJ.

If you, as a DJ, are threatened by this kind of product, perhaps you need to examine the technology you're using and what another DJ might think of your skills and abilities based on the tools you are using. The equipment doesn't watch the crowd, decide what tracks to play, how to mix them, how to EQ them, apply effects - it just makes doing all those things easier.

And in future, please hold the F-bombs for dinner with your mother; this is a public venue.

considering you work for the pioneer of course you would disagree! As for being threatened by technology hell no i thrive on it. I already have quite a few of you products (efx unit, djm800 and 2 of cdj2000's) and run Traktor and abelton live with a maschine & your efx 1000 unit. But i think we're coming to a point where the Cdj has probably been over perfected to a point where its now way too easy to mix, create loops etc. Its funny how you say equipment doesn't watch a crowd, decide to play tracks and mix them etc. Ever heard of software like Virtual DJ? its crappy But it gives the means for music companies to supply a bar/nigh club with a whole range of preprogrammed music and then it mixes the songs itself hence nullifying the DJ position

If your looking for products for the future, the point you guys should be aiming to is to be able to have projection screens from your devices where you will be able to use them like a touch pad I believe the idea is called Leap Motion. Also you should be by now looking into the idea that you products will be able to seamlessly connect to any other device. Also take a look at a device called parallella its concept will be the next generation of super computers. And as funny as this sounds IBM are looking into being able to control devices with your own mind & that sort of tech is only a 5 years or so away.

The other thing i was going to ask. Have you ever thought about catering to the disabled? They deserve just as much of a chance at interaction with your products as the rest of us. Hopefully that is always on a list of priorities with you.

And if the point I'm making needs emphasis then the F-bomb will be dropped. That's the entire reason swear words were created.

Considering I don't work for Pioneer, I just represent them here on the forums, I can disagree with anything I like! I am a working DJ and have 20 years experience to be able to formulate my own opinions. And I still don't believe the players are incorporating "mixer" features.

Technology will always advance, I'm not denying that. Software can already make recommendations based on energy levels or harmonics of a track - but in order to get the best response from the crowd, a DJ is still required.

DJs of all abilities are welcome to use Pioneer equipment, we don't discriminate.

You would be kicked out of any public venue for vulgarity if you dropped F-bombs, and you have been warned to keep it clean here as well.
