Xdj aero dreaded sync problem. Starts in second beat. Bug not fixed.

Hi, I researched my aero pretty well before I bought it but alas it seems not well enough. I have the dreaded sync problem many have complained about. I'm running firmware version 2. When I press sync (on deck B for example) and then press play, the track begins on the second and not the first beat. I've tried cueing the track ON the first beat, again pressing sync, and it starts on the second beat again when I press play. If I oress play, and then manually cue the track with my hand so it is on the correct beat, if the sync button is pressed as soon as I let go the sync automatically moves the track onto the wrong, second, beat again. This seems to happen on most tracks but not all. Occasionally it works as it should. Also, if I use sync and then switch it off whilst music is playing so I can adjust manually, the beat seems to lose, or gain, time..... Can anyone help please? Or is this going to be yet another "discussion closed" topic? Does firmware update version 3 fix this? I can't update for another month as I don't have the facility to as I'm working iverseas away from home. Many thanks in advance. This is killing me.

You don't mention if your tracks have been analysed in Rekordbox? If yes, it sounds like the first beat is not marked correctly.

The accuracy of the beat grid is important if you want sync to work.

Thanks Phil, yes all tracks analysed, prepared, loaded by wifi. How do you mark the first beat yourself (or can't you do this yourself?) and how do you adjust beat grid yourself (or can't you do this yourself?).

It may well be that I have to delete all tracks then re import and analyse them and start again from scratch. I DID import 400 tracks at the same time as I don't know how to catalogue them in rekordbox which in turn may have corrupted the process (I'm not sure whether importing so many tracks in one go could hurt the import and analyse process). This is real handy as all my tracks are here with me on an external HDD and the PC I need to do this work is 3,500 miles away. Useful pioneer. Useful.

Thanks Phil

I'll add that as this seems to be a problem with MOST tracks but not all (there's the occasional one track that syncs fine) then maybe my suggestion is the reason? I remember it taking an absolute age to import the 400 tracks, my phone went on standby etc whilst doing this.

Rekordbox does a good job aligning beat grids but it can get it wrong. You will need to enter prepare mode and check each song.

To edit the grid select a song you know is at fault.

Locate and select the up arrow (found above the reloop/exit button). The app changes, now allowing you to edit the grid.

Listen to the song, make sure the beat line is on top of a beat, use the metronome to help.

The first beat needs to be the red line. If it isn't you can change it by selecting the red/white button.

Preparing tracks is time consuming, I've been using Rekordbox for 4 years, I'm still "fixing" beat grids.

The Aero shines if you put in the work.

Thanks Phil. I will give it a whirl. Might be the fix I was looking for. 400 tracks (sigh).....

Seems to have worked, except it didn't allow me to select the first beat with the red line, more like the third beat if you see what I mean? This is acceptable for me however.

@Phil > Thanks for your input. :)

@Ash > Yes, updating the firmware would be worthwhile, especially if you want to use the rekordbox app with the AERO. Also make sure you're using the latest rekordbox (3.2.1) and then re-analyse all your tracks. This won't remove any of the cue or memory points, but if you haven't done it in a while it could help avoid problems later.

The first beat can be set by moving the beat to the "play head" (the white line in the middle of the waveform window) then pressing the red/white marker button.

I'll give it a go when I'm in the UK. However I used the method you suggested to prepare a track and i couldn't overlay the marker into the first beat. Rekordbox wouldn't allow this. I managed to overlay on the third beat but after I loaded and pressed play, the track was showing as at something like 300bpm, but actually played at something like 60bpm!! I'll have to wait until I'm in the UK, then revisit the problem after updating the firmware. In the meantime ive decided to hopefully sell this unit, and buy something else as this clearly is not good enough. Can you suggest if a XDJ RX is similar, so I can avoid? I'm thinking maybe get an SX as I've used one before and I get on with it.....

The RX is pretty awesome, but that won't address the issue of not being able to catch the first beat. You could try using the grid shift buttons (the arrow pointing either side of the red/white line) and have it slide the whole grid to the left. From there, you can adjust the spacing in the grid with these two guys:

Or if the calculation is grossly off, use the x2 or 1/2 buttons to bring it into a sensible range.
