RX 10,000 song limit

I understand the XDJ-RX has a 10,000 song limit. I just wonder why. If Pioneer is looking to take Rekordbox DJing into the future, I feel this is one thing that will hold back a lot of DJ's. Is there something with the software or the firmware that limits it? Is it possible that the limit could increase over time (maybe with a firmware update)? I have about 9,000 songs right now, so it's not a problem. But, as I add more & more music, if I'm limited to 10,000 songs, I will have to start picking & choosing. I'd much rather be able to load up all of my music on one USB stick. This isn't a major concern... just wondering if there's a reason for this limitation.

And... a part 2 question: (I can't seem to find the answer online). What is the file limit for a "Playlist"? I could've sworn I had seen 100 somewhere, but I just put the "Top 200" into one playlist and it appears to have worked fine.

Hi Mike

i believe its 1000 a playlist, as for the 10000 limit, I'm certain I've read it(Rekordbox) doesn't stop you adding more but thats what they recommend to maximise the running of the system, however that being said i can't see this being a massive hold back as 10000 tracks even at 3 minute radio edits is just shy of 21 days of music which should be ample of any set/variation.

The xdj-rx only has a limit of 10,000 tracks per playlist. Nevertheless you can import the whole database by highlighting all tracks in RB and export them to the USB device (context menu...). So there is no real limit at all. ;-)

oh, I was wrong - it's 1,000 traks per playlist:

XDJ-R1:

When using rekordbox:

Max number of tracks per PLAYLIST: 1000

Max total number of tracks: 10000

Without using rekordbox: 999 per folder.

XDJ-RX

When using rekordbox:

Max number of tracks per PLAYLIST: 1000

Max total number of tracks: as much as the capacity of the device. However, the performance of the navigation is related to the number of tracks stored in the library; large libraries will exhibit some lag when navigating.

Without using rekordbox: as much as the capacity of the device. However, only up to 10000 tracks can be displayed in one folder.

so the RX may may read a collection over 10k tracks but it will be slow, I tried to test this in a local place and it said the library couldn't be found so that was a bad start and bad first impression for me

BriChi could that not be down to the formmating of the drive/stick the library was on rather than the unit itself... After reading through this forum I can see the engineers are working hard to make it run as smooth as possible but with real life variations that could take some time to do.. I'm sure pulse will have a look at It for you as hes clued up on accepted/not accepted file/fomats

it shouldn't, the unit was on 1.5 which accepts HFS drives, RB was set to export for CDJ/XDJ-RX and so on, it works perfect on my 2000's for years, I did a fresh export about 2 weeks ago, everything worked great on the CDJ, plugged into RX and got "library not found"

@BriChi: It is one disadvantage of the XDJ-RX that it is very, very, very, very sensitive about USB-media and formats. But when it accepts the USB-stick everything runs solid as rock. I guess due of a different micro controller performance and architecture (controlling two decks instead of one CDJ) the the RX doesn't use the same operating system than it's used in the CDJs. That's why these many firmware upgrades are necessary. Everything is new and buggy.

There are limits for rekordbox and for the devices. The main limitation on the RX is the memory and processing available.

rekordbox can store an unlimited number of songs, but with the RX, performs best with a library sub-10,000 tracks.

rekordbox and the RX share a maximum of 1000 songs per playlist.

The maximum number of intelligent playlists within rekordbox is 128 (but may change with a future update).

The other maximums are, unfortunately, fixed.

You know, the Pioneer MEP-7000 can hold up to 150,000 songs and that came out in 2007.  Why would Pioneer limit a newer device to only 10,000?  I own both the MEP-7000 and XDJ-RX

The rx has no qwerty keyboard search so may be it wasnt economical enough to put a bigger processing buffer inside the rx unit which couldn't search for your 1 song in a million
Now they have lifted this limit on the rx2 and has qwerty search
I sold my original rx unit which is a shame as the build quality felt slightly better on the 1st rx
Think I'd go for the 1st rx if I used different USB media sticks regularlly
