tempo range alters itself

The tempo range changes itself whilst in the mix using DDJ-RZ.
Is there anyway to lock it?
has anybody else had this issue?

Are you running rekordbox 4.0.3?
Did you have sync engaged at the time?
Was the pitch difference between the two songs greater than the range you previously had selected?

hi, yes I'm running 4.0.3 but it also changed itself before i updated.
Yes sync was engaged.
No the pitch difference wasn't greater than that selected. Ive tried it with them both on +/-6, +/-10 & wide & it still does it.
I haven't found a pattern yet it can just happen anytime.

I know another user has had a similar issue, I'll bring it up again with the rekordbox team.

Pulse, I was the other user :)
I'll try 4.0.3 today when I get my DDJ-RZ (also today!!) and post updates.

Thanks @Harry, I knew there were a couple of similar discussions. ;)

Hi Keiko, experienced the same. But forgot to mention it together with my other problems. It switched to wide in my case, which gives a great Mickey Mouse effect ;-)

Hi Pulse, it happened again today. The sync was off this time. The tempo range in the left deck changed from +/-10 to wide then the tempo slider moved all the way down to the bottom(+). I purposely left the cursor hovering over the Rekordbox sign in the centre in case I'd accidentally touched the mouse pad.

Pulse. Tested in 4.0.3 with my shiny new DDJ-RZ. Unfortunately this still happens even loading tracks with only 2-3BPM difference. Switches to wide and when I instinctually move the slider a few mm, the pitch changes by 10% instead of 1%!
:(

I have been having the same issue with the ddj-sx. All I want is an answer from somebody, but nobody has got back to me!

Don't agree. I think they have a very fast responding team at costumer service, so I expect the issues wil be taken care of. I do agree however that the software is not stable enough to de live gigs.

Well I have been waiting for a response from the 13th of November.......would hardly call that a fast response Theo

The rekordbox team is looking into it. They were moving offices over the weekend and Monday is a national holiday. Hopefully we'll see it addressed in the next update, but no guarantees.

Having the same issue with my DDJ-SX2.
For me I could reduce this issue by engaging sync only to one deck.

Unfortunately this is happening nearly every session with sync engaged after the latest update!!  It always affects the deck that is being brought into the mix and you can actually see the pitch slider on the screen moving. This is not the end of the world as I tend not to use it now but it does also happen when the sync is turned off Which is very disappointing as its not stable enough to play out. The problem I'm having with not using the sync button is that the track that's being played's Bpm slightly fluctuates only by +- 0.3% but that's enough to through the mix out every time requiring correction which depending on how your bringing the mix in sounds awfull. After being bowled over with the features etc I'm sad to say I'm disappointed with the performance or lack of should I say!

Hi Pulse,

Automatic tempo adjust doesn't happen on any other Dj software that I've ever used before,

if you select +/- 6%, or any other percentage, it stays within that range, even if you load a track with Sync on accidentally (or bpm lock) ,it will not automatically move the tempo adjust to match the bpm,

out of all the frustrations with Rekordbox Dj, this is by far (for me) the biggest, after using the Xdj Aero for several happy years, and now moving on to the DDJ-SX2 ,I really struggle to get my head around why this is not just a manual change on the hardware?, rather than the software getting involved,

why does it automatically move from +/- 6% to wide in one go, just because I've loaded a song which is bpm + 40% different from the last, if you try this on the Aero, and I have set a particular tempo range, nothing happens.

Can't your software engineers incorporate a tempo lock option in preferences, this would really make me happy again :-) .......

                    Thanks.

@Adrian > No, they don't change the range on you, but that also means none of them allow you to return to 0%. To be honest, you're the first person to bring it up.

@Adrian > I actually just tested this with a DDJ-RX, loaded a track at 128BPM to deck 1 with 8% range, enabled sync, checked the range on deck 2 at 8% and sync enabled, then loaded a track at 80BPM, and the pitch range stayed at 8%, even though the difference on the screen was showing me +60% to get to 128BPM.

Disengaging the sync after deck 2 was playing popped the deck into WIDE pitch range mode, because the track was already at +60%. I re-engaged sync and put it back to 6% range.

After ending the first track (or making deck 2 the master), the pitch range jumped back to WIDE range, and because the pitch fader was at the 0% notch, I was able to move the fader to the position of +60% (known as pick-up mode) before it made any changes to the pitch value in the software.

Honestly, I don't see this as a problem, if you can explain why it would be desirable to be in a 6% range when the sync difference is greater than 6%, I'd be happy to hear what the reason is.

Hi Pulse,

Correct, but the main problem is when you disengage sync, it changes from +/- 6% (8%?) to wide, turning the song from the proper key, to the chipmunk's in a split second, have you ever tried to bring it back from that with your pitch slider on the wide setting, it's very difficult to say the least,

Maybe I need to evaluate the way I Dj, after 15 years of using copious amounts of gear I have never experienced the software taking over my set? although when I used to analyse my songs in Dynamic mode for my Aero this used to happen,

I probably think the way forward is to not to use it with Rekordbox Dj and use it with either Serato Dj or Virtual Dj, because I know these 2 software's are designed to ignore tempo changes outside of the selected percentage if it is greater than the specified amount,

In conclusion I think that Rekordbox dj is more for the cut and scratch type of dj, as opposed to mainstream pub/club style, which is disappointing..

@Adrian > Sorry, I didn't have that problem -- the track was already playing at +60% (at the 6% pitch range) so it was ALREADY playing in "chipmunk mode," once I disengaged the sync, it popped the range up to WIDE so I was then able to move the fader to do the pick-up.

For the record, when replicating a similar situation with Serato, when I have my sync'd track at +60%, that deck stays in the +6% range, but then my pitch fader movement is limited even after sync is removed. If the pitch fader is at the middle position, the best I can do to affect that pitch is changing it +/-6%, which, to be honest, at 60% is kinda useless. Oooh! Look, I'm at +54% now! If I'm doing that kind of transition where I want to get that track to its original tempo, I'm going to need a wider range anyhow.

Even if I'm not a such an extreme value, let's say I'm at 18%, which is outside of the largest non-wide range (of 16%), you might argue that the 6% range isn't bad, 10% is okay and 16% is doable. But your example was 40%, and I would certainly feel even being in the 16% range would be useless at that much difference.

Pulse,

Ok then, if I load a track that has a value of 85 bpm on to deck 1 (R&B for example), then load a track that has a bpm value of 119 on to deck 2 at a pitch range of +/- 6%, and just say that I have sync accidentally enabled on both Decks, why on earth would deck 2 switch to a bpm of 85 (around 40% difference) when I have only +/- 6% enabled?, which would really only equate to around a +/- 5 bpm value?, as previously mentioned, other Dj Software would ignore this and not switch my bpm/tempo range automatically to suit,

Just trying to put my point across - Adrian.

The 2nd track (119) would jump to 85 because you have sync enabled, and the first track is considered the master, so with the sync on, it's trying to match the 2nd track, regardless of the pitch range you have selected. What would be the point of maxing out at 6% when the track you're trying to sync to has a difference of say 7% or 10%? Obviously less dramatic than a 40% shift, and more likely to occur in the real-world of wanting to sync those two tempos together.

I appreciate you wanting to show your point, I am interested in hearing the "why" of any DJ's feature request, but I'm still not sure I understand exactly what the problem is with the range jump as it operates now.

Pulse,

I used to run my Aero at +/- 10%, if the song on the opposite Deck was outside of this bpm parameter, regardless of whether it was the Master deck or not, 'IT WOULD NOT SYNC MATCH', why is the software program different?, surely they should design a software program that mirrors other pioneer gear in the range, my friend has the XDJ RX, you can bet your bottom dollar I will be round there at the first opportunity, to see if this is the same as my aero, if it is, Serato Dj, here I come....................!!!!

@Adrian > With the XDJ-RX, it works the same way as the software; if you sync a track with significant tempo difference, the pitch will change to match the other deck, but as soon as you move the pitch fader, the display tells you to move the pitch fader to that value to match -- it's doing a "pick-up."

When doing a sync on the AERO, if your deck, which used to be at 6% is all of a sudden matching a track 40% different from it's original tempo, the range doesn't change, but it also doesn't do anything when you move it; it's waiting for you to select the appropriate range and do a "pick-up" in order for it to be able to change from that value. I'm not sure if you understood that this is how it works because the display didn't change the range...?

Here's the scenario, if you select the pitch range on the Aero at lets say 10%, and the track on the opposite deck is +/-20%, with sync selected, the maximum difference of the pitch range would still only move to a +/-10% difference of the track on the master deck, not +/-20% like in the software, if I wanted to match ALL my tracks with a 40% pitch range difference, I would select WIDE on my hardware, and not allow the software to decide the outcome, 10% means 10%, not 100%.
