You can, but you'll only have 1 pair of outputs as the USB audio outputs send a mix; the 1&2 out go to the master, 3&4 go to the headphones.
Hello! I was wondering if I can set xdj-rx as external soundcard and how can I do this? I would also like to use it in Cubase as audio interface...any help appreciated.

Related question. When you say that "the 1&2 out go to the master, 3&4 go to the headphones", does that mean that if I use the xdj rx as an external sound card, the audio will not output to the booth outputs? Right now I have the booth outputs connected to speakers and not the main outputs. I get sound when I play from a usb stick, but don't get any sound when I output from my laptop (spotify, youtube, beatport, etc.)---even though my computer appears to recognize the xdj.
@Michael > Which OS are you using?
Windows 10. I'm able to get audio to go out the master 1&2 from a USB stick as well as from Rekordbox (I can play a track on Rekordbox on my laptop and can get the audio to come through the XDJ-RX and play on the master 1&2, if I set the Rekordbox audio output to "Pioneer XDJ-RX ASIO"). But nothing I do seems to enable me to use the XDJ-RX as the external soundcard for other software. In my WIndows 10 sound output options, it shows (in addition to my headphones and internal laptop speakers), something called "Line Pioneer XDJ-RX". And if I select this as my audio output, the Windows 10 sound output appears to show that it is outputting audio to the "Line Pioneer XDJ-RX" (the sound meter jumps up and down). But I can't get any audio out of the master 1&2.
Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to install another driver? Change the settings on the XDJ-RX itself?
Here's the catch ... many applications aren't coded to use ASIO drivers as they only require a single stereo pair for output. ASIO allows software to access multiple input / output channels per device... which is exactly how the XDJ-RX is configured. These devices will almost always have a WASAPI driver available to them, this is sort of a default Windows driver and some devices will work fine, others will not. Unfortunately the XDJ-RX is one of those devices that, even if you use the WASAPI driver output for the software, it doesn't connect properly.
My recommendation is a work-around using an application called Voicemeeter. It installs a small virtual device driver which you can select as your main sound output for Windows (thus any application will send audio there), and then within the Voicemeeter application itself, you can select the XDJ-RX ASIO as your A1 output device. From there, you can send audio from any application through the XDJ-RX to either the master or booth output, and those knobs will control the volume level.
That worked perfectly, and I never would have figured that out on my own, thanks!!!
Awesome! Glad to hear it!
@Pulse Is there an alternative of Voicemeeter for OSX?
Mac is much easier for all these audio things... what is it you're trying to do (specifically)?
@Pulse I just want to be able to use my XDJ-RX as my audio interface without the audio going all repeated and stuttering like crazy when using Youtube or something
The audio interface of the XDJ-RX is not intended for use as the primary audio output device for your computer, and as such, the buffering from other applications can encounter those issues. Unfortunately when using the unit directly, it will potentially glitch.
If you use an application such as Jack, Soundflower or Loopback, you are able to create a software routing to send the audio to the hardware and it should avoid these glitches.
@Pulse please could you tell me how to do that with a software such as ; Jack, Soundflower or Loopback ' ?
@moe > Okay, here's how I managed to get it working...
You'll need to re-assign the outputs within Jack every time you want to use it, but this is the free and easy way.
Let me know if you get lost anywhere.
