I've been recording a mix with my xdj-rx and I adjusted the trim on both channels for 9dB, just before it redlines and everything was fine.
I'm now re-recording some sections but the channel volume seems capped at 3dB even though Im using the same songs, same usb, same settings.
I noticed that the volume goes back to 9dB if i change the tempo, but when I put it back to the original bpm it caps at 3db again.
I've tried using a new usb, restarting the controller, played with every single setting and knob, but still no use, any idea why this is happening?
I've attached a snapshot of the waveforms in audacity, the second waveform is the new recording.
First, +9dB is not where you want to be. Aim for 0dB instead. There is a maximum level output for the recording and you're "bricking" it because your channel levels are too hot. This has nothing to do with the tempo.

I recorded for the first time with my new XDJ-RX onto a Corsair Survivor 16GB USB drive. Throughout the mix, I adjusted the channel gain so that the meters peaked at 0db with the channel faders fully up. I left the recording level at default, though I did see an option in Preferences where it looked like the headroom can be changed.
Prior to using the XDJ-RX, I used a Traktor Z1 (Master Gain -8db, Recording Gain -12db), and the waveforms in Audacity didn't have "flat spots." The waveform from XDJ-RX recording appears flat in many areas, though it's often in the comparatively quiet sections of the recording. The louder parts actually look normal, with "peaks and valleys."
I don't believe this is a headroom issue, but might there be some other setting that would help? Here's a screenshot showing the "flat" waveform in the recording that was made from the XDJ-RX. 
And here's a screenshot from a previous mix using the Traktor Z1. Different tracks were used, this is just to show why I'm saying that the recording from the XDJ-RX looks different in terms of "flat areas" on the waveform:
