FYI: A 64bit version of the driver is now available.
Hi there,
Hope somebody can help.
I've had an XDJ-R1 for about 2 years now and although I have superseded it with the DDJ-RX I would still like to solve an issue I have with my unit in particular.
Since purchase I have always had issues with using it as a MIDI controller where it seemed that it just never mapped correctly to Virtual DJ or Tracktor. As I was using it with a hard drive and ipad this was never really a big thing though when it became compatible with Rekordbox DJ thought I'd give it another try only for the same issue to occur.
The main problem being that both channel 1 & 2 were controlled with the left side of the deck (channel fader, play/pause, etc), there are a few others but this was what stopped it from being useful as a controller. I'm not up on how to remap it but I am curios to know if anyone else has had a similar issue and how to fix.
I assume not everyone has the same issue because I know people who use it successfully as a controller.
if anyone can help I'd appreciate as it would be great to use this unit as my backup unit that works seamlessly with Rekordbox DJ.
Cheers
FYI: A 64bit version of the driver is now available.

anyone??
The R1 does work properly with rekordbox, no remapping required. You say you had issues where other software would not work properly either. Can you provide a bit more detail?
Hi Pulse,
Thank you for your reply and I concur that Rekordbox DJ should work perfectly with the R1, however, on my particular unit it does not. The issues on the other software that is recommended for use with the R1 (Virtual DJ & Tracktor) had the exact same issues on my unit as when using Rekordbox.
As mentioned the main issue was both decks 1&2 would only play from channel 1 and pressing play on deck 2 would do nothing, there were other issues on all software's though I can't remember exactly at the moment as it was a while ago i tried and because it didn't work I just went back to hard drive and iPad use.
I'm new to controller and software use so I did no messing about with internal mapping of midi controls, I just left as is.
If I get a chance I will reconnect to Rekordbox tonight and video the issues, I strongly think this is a fault on my own unit not the software itself.
Thanks,
Jon
@Jon > Thanks for the additional info -- that, to me, sounds like the unit isn't sending proper MIDI signal. Which operating system are you using?
Hi Pulse,
Thanks again for your response, for Rekordbox DJ I am using Macbook Pro running Yosemite 10.10.4 and this is the machine used when connecting the R1 to Rekordbox.
For the other software I used a Samsung laptop running what I believe at the time was Windows 7, it's been updated since but never retried connecting the R1.
I'm going to reconnect in a minute to the Macbook and see if I can list all the midi issues, if that will help.
Thanks,
Jon
@Jon > For testing on Windows, use MIDI-OX, and on Mac, use MIDI Monitor. They allow you to see the incoming MIDI signals. From that you can compare the signal from both decks to see if they mach; if the don't, the problem is with the mapping in the software.
excellent, thank you, I'll give that a try.
Not sure if it helps but trying again and the same issue occurs when using the cue buttons and listening through headphones so both channels are only audible through channel 1 while cued also.
Thanks,
Jon
Ok so tried and tested, this is the result. This was pressing play and pause (B-2 127) on channel 2 then play pause on channel 1, cueing (C-1 127) on channel 2 and then cueing on channel 1. The only difference I see is the "chain" number
Hopefully this helps the diagnosis.
Thanks
Okay, so B2 and C1 being the two notes show that they have different control signals being received by the computer. If those two buttons are both performing the same function within the software, your next step is to find those commands in the controller mapping and ensure that they're not set to the same function, and that one signal is not assigned to multiple functions.
As for the audio, you need to ensure you're running the ASIO driver. If that is not visible, you need to use this work-around for Traktor.
Hi Pulse,
Thank you for your reply,I hadn't tried much on this since the last post. I dug it ack out again this evening to try again.
On initial start up I managed to have deck 2 playing through channel 2 fader (the way it shoud) but also through channel 1 fader (which it shouldn't). After a bit of messing I restarted the Mac and rekordbox DJ and when it rebooted i had lost deck 2 on channel 2 and only on the channel 1 fader.
At this point I'd had enough, the firmware is up to date, the audio driver is the R1 driver, all the midi channels appeared to be correct on the software. Then for lack of all other ideas I entered Utility menu and looked at Mixer mode, it was currently set to XDJ-R1 so I changed it to PC and BOOOOOOOM! we have audio!
This appears to have done the trick with all channels doing what they are supposed to be doing. Just to add, PC mixer moder in all the other software I tried did nothing exceptional so this is why I did not try it earlier.
Thanks for your help and responses
Jon
ok, this was ridiculously helpful. I've been struggling with this same issue for months. I can finally use the r1 with rekordbox dj! Thank you!
Lol i had the same issue.. After 3 days in a row on the laptop i found it!!!!
