PLX 1000 - Fighting the motor while pitch bending

I have a pair of PLX 1000’s and I’ve also noticed the same issue on display units. 

 

For arguments sake, let’s say we are mixing two identical tracks with the exact same BPM and the pitch is locked correctly so that both tracks are in perfect sync....Whenever I‘m pitch bending, mainly when nudging the platter/ vinyl forward to beat match, the tracks will temporarily be in sync, but then the platter falls back maybe half or a quarter of a beat so that results in you nudging forward more and more.... almost like you’re fighting to get the track up to the beat. This is also visible on the strobes. 

 

Lets say we are at 0% pitch, the strobes are dead centre and still... to nudge it forwar, the strobes move further clockwise, but after a few seconds, they temporarily begin moving slightly counter clockwise. It just seems so annoying. And it’s happened on every unit I’ve tested. 

 

I hope ive explained it ok. I don’t really see a possible solution to this. I would be willing to upload a video if it helped explained. But I have seen multiple people comment about this online.

Thanks for the video -- but this is perfectly normal; you have momentarily sped or slowed the platter speed above or below the set rotation speed, the platter is returning to it's normal speed.

What you're seeing when you initially drag it is the strobes moving backward as the platter speed slows, then they appear to move forward as the platter speed returns to zero -- it's not speeding-up above the zero-speed, the same as when you push the platter, it first moves the strobes forward as it's moving faster, but then the platter speed slows back to resume the zero-speed.

I've not heard of anyone complaining about that here in the forums, where did you see them post about it?

Yes, a video would be helpful - mine doesn't seem to do that.

You can see by the strobes, initially slowing down by touching the side of the platter, then speeding up. Note the strobes. Pitch is locked at 0% throughout so after bending, strobes should be still. This is not a visual effect as you can audibly here it also. It’s annoying because if you need to speed the record up, it counteracts and slows down for a moment  so I’m continuously fighting it. As I said, it’s happening on both my units and display models I’ve tried. However it doesn’t happen in my previous non-pioneer tables  

 

I did did not see any mention of this in the forums, but I have seen a few comments on YouTube about it. I’ll see if I can dig them out.

Thanks for your comment Pulse. I’m under the impression that the PLX should not be exceeding 0% when returning to 0% after pitch bending. As I said, it’s not just a visual effect, you can hear this in the audio when playing vinyl. 

 

Heres a comparison between the Pioneer and another turntable. You can see the first turn table does not appear to speed up past or exceed 0% after bending  however, the Pioneer does which has a negative effect when mixing  ..... here’s a new video
