DDJ-RZ Pitch/ Rekordbox slowdown

I'm not really sure what to make of this.  Essentially the pitch has stopped working.  I can pitch down, but it doesn't track in Rekord box until about halfway down and then it jumps a couple bpm then nothing then jumps.  It's not smooth at all.

Around the same time, I started noticing Rekordbox just being sluggish.  I can load a track and play it, but the waveform visual and program won't respond for a 10-15 seconds later when it catches up.

DDJ-RZ is on the latest firmware and Rekordbox is running on an HP EliteBook i7 3630QM/16GB ram and 500GB SSD

It's possible I just have too much music on my external drive which I share with the database.  If that's the case then the slowdown is maybe explained.  But the pitch control is freaking me out.  

This also started happening shortly after I upgraded it to the latest firmware.  But I do remember it working after that.  I'm at a loss to explain what is happening.
