XDJ 1000 mk2 white noise distortion (ISSUE)

Hi, recently updated the firmware of my XDJs 1000 mk2 from 1.41 to 1.42. Unfortunately after this one of the player developed a random distortion after 2 hours of use and it drops a white noise distortion at high volumes and the music is no longer playing even when the waveform still advancing in the screen, doesn't look like a USB issue because there is no emergency loop triggered, it happened with an AIFF file, but if I hit cue and play the issue goes away, also power cycling resolves the issue temporary then it appears again. I'm connecting with RCA cables, still don't know if the digital output has same issue will confirm this later.

I was reading about similar issues in this forum found on models like 900 & 2000 nxs and some thread saying that this issue is not present in newer models, but actually is present in XDJ 1000 mk2 with latest update so I wanted to let you know.

Here is a clear example of the issue:

I haven't tried to turn off Master Tempo as recommended in previous threads because I read about it until today, but I will isolate if the MT button affects in this distortion later. So far I won't be able to use this player again in gigs :( Very dissapointing.

If possible let me know which internal module might be causing this issue so I can try to get a replacement part, I think this might be related to main Assy module 3920 where the DAC is. Warranty is no longer an option for me because its a 2-3 years old player so I will need to fix from my end, we dont have Pioneer Service Centers in Costa Rica Central America.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Regards!

Hi, I confirm this is exactly the same known issue of master tempo distortions from models like CDJ 900 & 2000NXS. This issue is also happening on up to date models like XDJ 1000 mk2 with latest firmware 1.42.

This is a known issue since 2015, 5 years later Pioneer still don't know how to fix and they have done nothing about this, so dissapointing, looks won't be able to use Master tempo feature anymore on XDJ 1000 mk2.

This hasn't been resolved because it's next to impossible to trace the cause. So far they have been unable to replicate it or determine exactly what the issue is. So far, the majority of the users reporting this had been using the digital output from a CDJ-2000 (various models), but you're showing it on an XDJ-1000MK2 over analog.

Have you ever had this issue occur playing other filetypes, or only AIFF?

Hi thanks for your response, actually the thread I read on this forum many users confirmed the issue is on both outputs digital and RCA. I haven't tried the digital output for now only analog RCA, I was using Psytrance AIFF files from bandcamp but mysteriously the issue doesn't happened in previous months when using House & Techno WAVs & MP3s with previous firmware 1.41, I can't tell if AIFF was working fine before because I got the AIFF files recently after i updated to firmware 1.42. This annoying distortion happened 4 times in a week for me when having MT on with those AIFF so I don't think is that difficult to replicate, neither impossible. I have provided you a video showing the issue, would you like more videos? I can also shared some of this AIFF files with you and I can keep trying to replicate the issue few more times in different XDJs to see if there is something specific apart from the MT button to trigger the issue.

If this is happening in a production model like XDJ 1000 mk2 with latest firmware 1.42 I think you should investigate more, I can help with any testing you need, I'm willing to help on getting a fix for this.

Do you know if it was only with Bancamp AIFFs? Because I know there's a problem with those files and I have a fix I'd like you to try if that's the case.

BUMP

Hello, Is there a solution to this problem? I'm having the same problem and it's very frustrating. It's been happening to me very often lately. Please let me know.

Hi Bump, unfortunately no, they didn't even share that tip/fix about the AIFF files, I ended up selling the XDJ 1000 mk2 to a psytrance guy who don't use MASTER TEMPO ON. So basically as long as you don't use that feature the player will work fine. But for harmonic mixing DJs can be a nightmare that's why i sold it.

It's amazing they still have this issue in recent products like XDJ 1000 mk2 and there is no fix at all.

Again, if the problem is with Bandcamp AIFFs, we know why it happens and can direct you to either modify the file directly or suggest that you re-encode the file to resolve the problem. If it's with another file, we would need to know what the specifics are in order to diagnose it.

Dyan Katz: Thank you so much, turning off master tempo really helped me (5 hours playing without crash).. It's not an ideal solution, but it's better than waiting for a crash..

Pulse: Yes, these are bandcamp AIFF files.. This means that re-encode (aiff to aiff) will help? And what about WAV from bandcamp, they are safe (without re-encoding)?

Hi guys, I'm glad the Master Tempo OFF tip worked for you guys, also wanted to say thanks to Pulse Support for providing the tip of re-enconding the bandcamp AIFF files, I shared the tip to the guy who bought me the player and he will give it a try definetely.

Thanks everyone! I'm happy with your support!

@Dyan > Thanks - sorry I didn't get the info to you sooner!

@Miroslav > Sorry, it's an issue with WAV files, not AIFF (my mistake!), but I'd be happy to hear about the issues with AIFFs if that's what's happening for you.

Regarding WAVs, they have an issue where they are encoded with a non-PCM stereo flag; the players thus think they're a different encoding type and can't play them. The fix is either to convert the file or to use a hex-editor to make the appropriate changes.

Bytes 20-21 are the wFormatTag – PCM should be 1, another value would be for some form of compression:

FE FF > 65534

So this file is not a PCM, it’s Wave Format Extensible. This basically allows for a multi-channel WAV file to be created. This isn’t a standard WAV file format, and while should be backward compatible, is usually not used for standard 2-channel audio.

I changed bytes 20-21 (wFormatTag) to a value of 01 00 (a decimal value of 1; meaning PCM), and the CDJ was then able to read the file:

Hi Pulse thanks a lot for the information, but the issue I had was specifically with bandcamp AIFF files, not WAV. I would recommend pioneer to dig more into these issues because is definetely not an issue with WAV PCM format in my case.

The white noise distortion im talking about came out more than 4 times with AIFF files using MASTER TEMPO ON on XDJ 1000 MK2.

Dyan,

If you have any AIFFs that have it occur repeatedly, could you send them over to forums@pioneerdj.com and include a reference to topic 360060965771?

Thanks!
