Filter And Sound Color FX Not Work With External Synths/Hardware

I’m working on a live synth set using some hardware (Sub37, digitakt, minilogue) I am connecting it to my DJM900 NXS but the filter is not working nor is the sound color FX. I imagine this is due to where the Instruments are sitting in the chain. How can I correct this so I can get max value out of the mixer? I am using a 1/4 in to RCA adapter in the line I put to connect the hardware to the mixer.
