Ddj rz not connecting consistently with rekordbox

I've had the system for 4 months now and after plugging in before installing the driver I've had no end of problems (self inflicted I know)

I tried everything over the last few months but can't seem to get it right. When I connect usb I can scroll through track but when I try to load. The corresponding deck number shows next to the track but doesn't load. It just stays empty. When I unplug the usb the track will load.
I the plug the usb back in and it's hit or miss whether it will play. Constantly loading the driver before playing seems to work but is a ball ache.

I've removed everything including the database and downloaded from scratch.
I've deleted the device Driver from the devices menu when controller was plugged in.
Can't remember what else but I've trawled the Internet looking for solutions and nothing seems to make a difference

Strange. I had this same problem a few times over the last two weeks. Been using my DDJ-RZ and Rekordbox since they both came out in 2015.  No changes to my computer or software updates, except moving to 4.2.4 and now 4.2.5.  On both 4.2.4 and .5, I've randomly had issues connecting as well.  I would connect everything up and the DDJ-RZ behaves like nothing is connected. Have to power cycle and it connects fine.

Powercycle the laptop or controller?

I've tried putting the controller in the update mode and then connect again but to no avail.

The percentage on connections has risen since I've turned all firewalls off but since then rekordbox has crashed twice on me. Not sure if either are related.
Crashing is far worse than connection issue and I have gigs Friday and Saturday.

Finally thing is to buy a new laptop but if that doesn't solve the problem I may break and throw the controller out the window
