CDJ-900 & External USB Hard Drive

Ok so I am aware the I can plug in a USB thumb drive into the CDJ-900 and it will work so long as its formated in fat32. I am on windows. I have an 80GB hard drive. I fresh formatted a partition and made it 32 gb's, its the only way to format in fat32. I then put a song on the drive, ps the drive has its own external power supply. I plug into the decks and I get the NO USB.

Anyone point me to how to get this correctly done? I am running the latest firmware and I saw someone with an external plugged in. I want this as a backup solution in case of laptop issues.

Have you tried a different USB to see if it says the same?

That sometimes occurs with the Pioneer USB drive reading system when the entire drive is not formatted.  Try reformatting the entire thing with a utility like the HP USB Disk Storage Format Tool one.  Windows has issues with formatting large Fat32 drives.  Interestingly, though the Hanpins have limits to the number of folders and files in folders and total files (999, 999, and 9,999, respectively), it does not suffer the same issue as the Pioneers with regard to un-formatted space causing a misread.
