Yup - go the external route and don't look back.
Except to back up your drive. Do that.
I'm in the position by which my DJ laptop is fairly old - sufficiently powerful to run Rekordbox - but very slow for analysis/music management. I do have access to an insanely powerful Mac though....
Is it possible to have Rekordbox (free management/export mode only) on a powerful Mac - exporting music/database to an external device - and be able to use this database on a less powerful Mac?
Fast mac is the analysis/management workhorse.
Slow mac is the DJ-only laptop (no analysis)

In my point of view if you have an external HD where you can have the Rekordbox database and files you can use it in both computers, one for analysis and other for performance for instance.
What I do is the following. I use my Desktop PC and connect my external hard drive, to load new track I purchased, analyse, set up my cue points, playlists, etc...once all that is done, I connect my external hard drive to my laptop, load Rekordbox, and everything is already there ready to go.
