Mixed playlist idea

So I know the whole mixed video / audio playlist thing (via iTunes bridge) has been on the to do list and hounded by a bunch of us for quite a while and I'm definitely not holding my breath but I've thought of another angle:

Why do I like iTunes so much for managing my library?  Well apart from it being the foundation of years crate and playlist building used across Traktor, Serato and now Rekordbox I really love the smart playlists and having the ability to add a track somewhere which will then auto update on other playlists based on parameters I've set.  Has Pioneer thought of adopting this design into Rekordbox?  I've tried using the inbuilt playlists and folders but it's been very limiting so I'm now back to tabbing between iTunes and Rekordbox when doing AV sets.

Alternatively if you guys do eventually get video coming through on iTunes (as can be done in Serato) maybe a filter video / audio button could hide / show different tracks based on their medium and be auto set to off for exporting so only compatible files end up on the thumbdrive.  (Similar to those download all plugins for firefox that let you bulk select all the formats you want on the website)

Then eventually when you guys release the next CDJs which can play MP4s and run video without a laptop (wink wink) you've already laid down the foundations for the future direction of your DJ ecosystem.

Just my two cents ;-)

I'm still hoping for improvements to the intelligent playlist criteria, I know it's on the list to be included, but it takes time for some of those things, just like the mixed-media playlists. Obviously the big hurdle there is the fact that the players (CDJs, XDJs, etc) aren't able to play video files, so a DJ with a mixed list would only wind up having the audio files available.

One consideration, the converter, could also be a bit of a mess as I've seen DJs complain about the amount of time it takes to export their music (mostly because they're using low-quality flash drives with horrible write-speeds), and adding the conversion process would only take longer and make everyone less content with the process.

The team is constantly working to improve these things, so keep the suggestions coming and keep watching for updates.

The Rekordbox version of smart playlists are called intelligent playlists. But be warned, they are quite "stupid" compared to the iTunes counterpart, several crucial criteria are missing and sorting is an ongoing issue since 2015. With creative use of tags most issues can be worked around but the intelligent playlists are still quite limited.

Unfortunately they don't work with Video though which has separate and much more limited playlists.  For MP3s I can use the iTunes bridge so it's all gravy, it's just Video doesn't come through iTunes so you've got to use the internal playlists which are even more limited than the music side :-(

Give MusicBee a try...!

Imo, compared to iTunes, it has much better tag management, better smart playlists, support multi value as well as custom metadata, and exports Flac files into the iTunes xml too, which in turn can be read by Serato & RB, and Traktor (unfortunately Traktor gets confused if you have flac files in the xml though as it has some hard coded bad habbits, which is an open bug on the NI site for yonks to cleanly read out just the file paths, and don't make assumptions on formats as they do atm...).
