DDJ-RB midi mesages

Hi,

I am performing a midi mapping for the DDJ-RB to Mixxx, I am using the document that is provided on PioneerDJ website for the List of MIDI messages of the DDJ-RB.

My question is on Part No B1 Rotary Selector  for a press trigger it states that this could be for either Deck 1 or Deck 2( MIDI Channel(Dec) 1/2), I wan't to know if this is a mistake in the documentation? As I can't understand how the DDJ-RB will know when someone presses the Rotary Selector if it is for Deck 1 or Deck 2, surely like the rotate operation it must be on Midi Channel 7?

Also another question on Midi mapping, how can Vinyl on or off work with Part No D3-L and D3-R? The DDJ-RB does not have a Vinyl mode switch, so how will the DDJ-RB pass on a different midi data based on the Vinyl mode?

Thanks for any help

Nope, the rotary selector isn't specific to a deck, it simply browses through the collection. Pressing the selector moves back through the window areas. The load buttons are specific to the deck.

I'm not familiar with the part numbers, so I'm not sure what you're asking for in terms of the vinyl mode control; as you note, there is no function on the RB to control that, but you could remap another function. I don't frequently change my effects, so I changed SHIFT+FX ON (SELECT) to be the vinyl control for each deck.

Thanks for the response.

That is also my understanding of the rotary selector, that is why I was surprised to find that the DDJ-RB would send a different midi channel for each deck when it was used. I understand that when the shift is used, which is deck specific that a different midi channel would be used.

On the vinyl, the midi mapping tends to suggest that the DDJ-RB is aware when vinyl mode is active to send a different message back to the computer. I am assuming that the computer has to tell the DDJ-RB to go into vinyl mode then it will send back the different midi message when the platter is used.

Shift+encoder doesn't specifically target a deck - it's just another MIDI command.

The jog sends the same signal regardless of the mode; the computer simply detects it as rotation (pitch bend) rather than rotation+jog touch (scratch).
