XDJ-RX2 Major Bug found in first week (video)

As you can see in this video, SYNC and Master Tempo are both turned on, and the red grid markers are lined up so everything is in sync. You press the beatjump for example 8 bars backwards (or forwards) and all of a sudden it just goes out of sync completely. The red grid markers are no longer lined up... This is very scary when you plan on using this for gigs and like to use the beatjump feature. I've never had any issues with other software/hardware that have a beatjump feature, this is my first time using Pioneer and right now my xdj-rx2 is not reliable for gigs even compared to my traktor s4 :/

 

I have made sure my songs are CBR (320kbps) and have tried multiple USB's (A Sandisk, Kingston, my WD external, and Samsung Fit 3.0) all formatted as Fat32 Master Boot Record and have no issues. Tried multiple songs as well and double checked my grids are accurate.

 

You guys NEED to fix this in the next firmware update

Good news - the engineers were able to figure it out and are working on a firmware to correct this particular issue. Thanks for your patience.

Have you tested that with the quantize disabled?

I believe so but have tried a lot of things so I'll double check it again tonight and can make a video with quantize disabled if needed

Just asking the questions so I have a full picture to provide to the engineers.

I know they'll also ask if it happens when using the other beat jump values, in either direction... etc.

will do, I'll make another video just in case you guys need it and I will test quantize, both directions, and different beat values. Will also test rekordbox export mode just to give you guys as much info as possible

I tested both with quantize off and on, and with beat jumps forward and backwards with different values and on both decks, and separate USB for both decks. Then after testing I made a video demonstrating it all.

Requesting the status on this bug (I have a club gig in LA in a few weeks and just need to make sure beat jump works by then in order to bring it) Also forgot to mention I attempted to reinstall firmware to see if it helps, but realized you can't reinstall firmware if it's the same version number

Sorry, there is a near-zero chance of an update being available before your event - either just be aware of it, or don't use it that much!

It seems to me what's happening is the beat jump is adding time with each jump, so it's not "exact" - and over a series of presses, that additional time compounds, which is why (with quantize off in your second video) you can see it getting further apart the more you do it. When the quantize is on, it seems to stay on-beat until all of a sudden it jumps to 1 beat off because the threshold of accumulated difference is great enough for it to quantize to the next single beat.

If you were to change your quantize value to 4 beats, I'm sure you wouldn't notice it for a significantly longer time, but then you'd also only ever get any quantized actions to occur on the 4 beat timing as opposed to 1 beat.

I agree that's what's happening and its concerning cause I'm wondering what other functions might have huge issues like this, and I believe the max quantize value in the Utility menu itself is 1 beat but I will double check tonight I dont think that would be a very good workaround for the event though anyway. I'm gonna have to change all my cues up and I'll have to stay away from it all together to be safe.

Just want to make sure Pioneer is actively working on this major issue, has it been sent over to the engineers?

@Pulse, I have been checking the firmware page every week or so, I know you guys don't post timeframes on firmware updates, but is there anyway you can request for one from the engineers or ask for an update on the status? It has been almost 4 months now and the unit still can't be taken out for gigs due to these major reliability issues (with or without sync). Thanks again for all your help on the issue.
