File management - can't get my head around it

Hi Everyone

I just can't seems to get my head around how to do my file/folder management.

I do not use iTunes. I simply sort my music in folders and subfolders. My question is this: How do I get these folder into Rekordbox? And how do I keep the content of the folders in Sync with Rekordbox? Do I manually have to drag in each new file from each folder on the playlist each time I add a new song? Or is there any way to just keep the folders in sync with my playlists? Or any to drag the main folder onto Rekordbox and  playlists will be created automatically? When I drag in a folder with a subfolder in it, the whole file structure  collapses and becomes just one playlist, instead of multiple.

You could use a program like tagscanner to edit the ID3 tags of the tracks to help.

Before you import the tracks into Rekordbox, edit the ID3 tag of each track to show the name of the playlist you would like in the comments section. Tagscanner lets you do this to multiple tracks at a time, so you can select all the tracks in your 'House - Classic' folder, and put 'House - Classic' in the comments part of the ID3 tag.

You can then import everything into Rekordbox, and list the whole collection alphabetically using the comments. They will then be shown in the groups, and you can easily select all the tracks with 'House - Classic' in the comments and add them to the relevant playlist.

You would create the playlists in RB since they are not coming from a bridge program like iTunes.  You can set up the playlists the same way in RB and then import the collection, library, and place tracks into the playlists.

Just to add my 2p, I follow a similar method to you in that my HDD folder structure reflects my playlists (or vice verser). When I add new tracks to my hdd, I keep a note of which folders I've added them to. When I've finished adding the new tracks I drag and drop the contents of each folder into the respective playlist in rekordbox. The software will ask if you want to add or skip duplicate tracks, click skip and it'll only add the new tracks to your playlist and collection. It will leave all existing tracks as they are.

AFAIK there is no way to dynamically link playlists in rekordbox to folders on your hdd, but I would happily stand corrected if there is a way (without using iTunes).

No in that the playlist structure is your doing and choice in RB while the hdd is a separate sytem to RB since it hasn't been analyzed and set with the playlists..

I didn't say external HDD, I'm talking about the hdd in my laptop which I use for rekordbox. All of my music is analysed and arranged according to how I want the playlists to appear in rekordox. Good luck.
