Feature request - drag & drop tracks from rekordbox to other apps

A sorely needed feature in rekordbox is the ability to drag & drop tracks directly from the browser to other apps... e.g. to Ableton Live, so you can use rekordbox to organise tracks for a mixtape and then drag & drop them directly into the Ableton project.

Currently you have to right-click individual tracks and select "Show In Finder" to then drag & drop individual tracks into Ableton from the newly-created Finder window... this workflow is clunky because it doesn't allow you to work with multiple files simultaneously, so if you're trying to drag 10 tracks from a rekordbox playlist into Ableton, you need to do the "Show In Finder" thing one track at a time, which is very slow.

Another example - if you want to simply drag multiple files from a playlist to Finder to copy them to a new folder, you can't do this either... the workaround here is to save the playlist as an m3u8 file, then open that in itunes, and then drag the files to a folder to get them in the one spot... it's super clunky. It would be much better to be able to drag & drop from rekordbox directly to Finder.

are you on mac or pc? which version of RB?

On my mac i can drag and drop from RB to any app with no issues

"Finder" is the give-away that he's on Mac.

And I'm not sure how you are doing it, it doesn't work for me on 3.2.1. I know it's been requested before.

Yep, on a mac here... version 3.2.1

Definitely need this for rekordbox to be a fully featured library management tool

This was a bug back with 3.0.x early on, it looks like it somehow came back. I've put it back to the engineers.

Dragging into Ableton works on PC.

It would be nice to drag files from Rekordbox into Nero - for example burning to CD (I always take a backup of my playlist on CD just incase).

Or even a right-click on a playlist and 'burn to CD :)

you can't drag from RB to your desktop? Weird, I'm on a mac and can drag from RB to any other program with no issues.

I'm on Yosemite and RB 3.2.1

Okay, so apparently it's not a bug and it's dependant on the applications themselves (and this applies to both Windows and Mac OS's). I've had mixed results going to the finder and other applications, the engineers say they can not guarantee this functionality outside of rekordbox as the other applications may not accept it.

Hmmm well it's definitely not possible to drag from rekordbox to Ableton, whereas you can drag & drop from Serato DJ to Ableton, so I'm not sure where the fault lies, but it's a much-needed feature on Mac...

So after having a few issues with basic file movement between Rekordbox and other applications I searched on here to find this thread. I have a had a play and it seems RB doesn't like switching "spaces" or desktops on a mac, to other programmes or using 'cmd-tab" to switch. If you have Ableton and RB side by side on the same screen it will drag and drop perfectly.

rekordbox doesn't like dnd from most applications, I tested a few variations of apps and it's nothing to do with spaces, more the program(s) and how they interact.

That may be the case but I have succeeded with nearly all applications now by making the RB window half of the screen size and the other application half the size, having them side by side and literally dragging over. If I use tab to switch apps it doesn't like it and if I switch spaces it doesn't like it. Like wise I can drag and drop on to the desktop if there is actual desktop space displayed on my current screen, however if I use a shortcut to move all apps and view the desktop then d&d doesn't work. Seems the inferfacing with mac OS X needs tweaking.
Side note - where has "show in playlists" dissapeared too?

This was the result of my testing a couple of months ago:

Running 10.10.3 on my MBP, with rekordbox 3.2.1, iTunes 12.1.2.7, Serato DJ 1.7.5, Ableton Live 9.1.5, Traktor 2.6.8, VDJ Pro 7.4.2, VDJ Pro 8.0.0, djay Pro 1.1.1

Drag and drop test from -> to:

rekordbox -> Finder = Okay
rekordbox -> iTunes = No
rekordbox -> Serato = No
rekordbox -> Ableton = No
rekordbox -> Traktor = No
rekordbox -> VDJ7 = No
rekordbox -> VDJ8 = No
rekordbox -> djay = No

Finder -> rekordbox = Okay
iTunes -> rekordbox = Okay
Serato -> rekordbox = Okay
Ableton -> rekordbox = Okay
Traktor -> rekordbox = Okay
VDJ7 -> rekordbox = No
VDJ8 -> rekordbox = No
djay -> rekordbox = No

As you can see, the majority of outbound did not work, but the inbound only worked for some applications.

As for the playlists question, I just noticed that seems to be missing in 3.3.0... I'll have to ask.
