Five Tips to Keep in Mind

I'm currently enjoying the trial of Rekordbox DJ and, despite a couple hiccups, am enjoying the experience thus far. Based on the many posts I'm reading, it seems that I may be in the minority here. I'd like to politely suggest a couple tips to those of you experiencing problems and those of you interested in trying out Rekordbox DJ:

  1. Try Before You Buy. Pioneer offers a generous 30-day trial of Rekordbox DJ. Download the trial and put some time into it prior to deciding whether or not you want to plunk down $129. Make sure it works with your DJ rig/computer and really push it as if you were playing a gig to see if run into any problems ahead of time. I've seen several users demanding refunds which makes me beg the question: why would you blindly purchase software that offers a fully functioning free trial?

  2. Read the Manual. Seriously. The majority of problems posted in the forum have resolutions clearly outlined in the manual. We all love diving head first into our new "toys," but you will be surprised how much better you will be at using the software is you read the manual–in addition to being able to solve your own problem(s).

  3. Post Your DJ Gear/CPU Specs. When you post a negative message bitching about how much you hate the software, Pioneer, etc. and that it "doesn't work" or that it's "broken," nothing will get accomplished. @Pulse can only dissect and resolve problems based on the info he is given. If you give him nothing, you should expect the same in return.

  4. Act Like Adults. With each message posted, I see users' internet muscles swelling by the second. Typing in all CAPS, making silly threats and simply acting like an asshole accomplishes absolutely nothing. The fact that Pioneer even has some stationed at this forum who promptly responds to the many (many!) posts is a rarity. I won't name-drop other companies, but let's just say the "other" major DJ/tech company doesn't even bother responding to users, whether it be via phone or forum...and their email turnaround is laughable.

  5. This is Rekordbox/Rekordbox DJ 4.0. Notice the "0." For the uninitiated, this means it's the first version of the software without any implemented revisions (i.e. 4.1). There are going to be bugs. That's just the nature of software engineering–there are many PC's with many different versions of Windows with many different CPU hardware specs. Such a vast majority of variables are bound to lead to issues, this is true from everyone from Pioneer to Adobe. Use a bit of common sense. If you have a "huge gig this weekend," why take a risk using a brand new DJ software? This is not a knock against Pioneer, rather, common sense. Get to know the software on a professional level so you can anticipate any potential issues or identify any bugs in advance. If you do find a bug, try to replicate it and write down your order of operations that led to the bug discovery. This data will help Pioneer engineers and @Pulse help you. If you can make a screen cast, even better. And as previously mentioned, be sure to include your complete DJ rig setup specs.

Keep calm and DJ on.

Cheers.

Thanks @lostnthesound.

As many of you know, there was an extensive Early Adopters Program with over 200 beta testers from various experience levels using all different kinds of hardware and computer configurations. Many bugs and flaws were discovered by their efforts and engineers worked diligently to address as many of them as they could before the Oct. 1st deadline. Some still exist and are on the chopping block, and certainly, there is the chance others will be found or will come up as the public now has opportunity to use the program.

It should be no surprise that many of the solutions to your problems are indeed found in the manual, or simply by using some common sense in troubleshooting. I'm finding that many of the answers I'm providing this morning are quite simple, but for those with more complex issues, your patience is appreciated and I will be getting to your questions as soon as I can -- I'm just one guy!

Thanks or your support and patience with the new rekordbox 4 experience.

Spot on! Some people need some patience, cause I'm also loving the new rekordbox so far- problems I heard a lot from friends today related to their file extractor on Mac or registration problems (probably server overload today) and ya 30 days don't hurt and Pioneer clearly mentioned which gear is compatible which isn't a few weeks ago... suggest they re-watch that intro video that answers most questions they have asked today.

Thanks lostnthesound :D
