3 issues for upcoming updates (search box, ...)

Hi there,

Thanks a lot for Rekordbox DJ. However, I have been trying to figure out if I can make the switch from Traktor eventually.

As already suggested, a somewhat "global" search function would be a great improvement. Right now, you do have to click on Collection if you want to type in a search for a particular track. A permanent search box allowing djs to retrieve tracks at any time during their performance is vital.

I noticed a very irritating feature which, I guess, has also been mentioned here. I use two CDJ 2000 and each time I load a track by pressing the knob on the player, the track starts instantly. Kind of tricky since you may not have pulled down the corresponding fader.

Third issue deals with the keyboard input. So while testing Rekordbox DJ yesterday, I used the search function. Apparently, I did not click into the search box and my typing resulted in stopping of playing the current track. Could also be a problem. So is it possible to limit keyboard input only to the search box?

Any help on these issues or consideration of them for future updates is highly appreciated.

Thanks,

Marc

Hey Marc,
you can search your hole collection when you press (on a mac) ctrl + f. After pressing this you geht to the search field where you can type. You can also change this short cut in the settings.

For the second question: I had the same problems. I think this is when you are in Sync mode. We have to try it out :-)

third: i don't think that you can limit the entry of the keyboard.

Hi guys! I think the best way is to have a permanent search box everywhere and not only on the main collection section & playlists! Traktor has a permanent search box which finds for you results insede the specified folder that you are in. Maybe I look for a song in just the folder I am in and not in my whole collection. But even if pioneer could place a permanent search box in would be much greater than this! when you have to play quick every second and every fewer clicks are better for you to perform! when you play you must have everything in front of you.

you are 100% true. But when you press the Ctrl + F shortcut you will go straight to your collection and to the search box. Doesn't matter where you where before... in which playlist etc.

So you doesn't have to click into to search field with your mouse. Just press Ctrl + F and type the track name.

I'm gonna give it a try my friend and try to get used to it when my RZ finaly arrives to Greece! For now I got stuck with Traktor. Hehe... Anyway thank you!

A more appropriate search option would be CMD-F as search (this is standard across mac OS). CTRL-F should be the 'secondary' option using best practices, and would search in your current folder/playlist.

In other words, this should be the correct use of the Mac Modifier keys:

CMD-F - Search entire collection
CTRL-F Search just current playlist

Minor issue. I may try and remap this shortcut

Thanks for your replies. DVJ Mito, thanks for the shortcut. However, I'd rather have a permanent search box like Giannis suggested. Yeah, I've been using Traktor, too, and maybe I got spoiled by this feature. Still, it makes an awful lot of sense, especially for mobile djs who have to cover a wide range of music and do not play a prearranged set. This search function should be a global one, so should not be limited to the folder or playlist you are currently browsing (again another feature implemented in Traktor). For me, keyboard input should be limited to the search function since I do want to make use of my cdjs to browse playlists and to load tracks. If you depend of your laptop's keyboard too much, your crowd won't see much of you ;)
So DVJ Mito, you also noticed that instant playback of a track after loading it into a deck. That should be something Pioneer has to take care of in one of the future updates.
Limiting keyboard input is very important I guess since accidentally hitting a key might screw up your performance (yeah, again, Traktor allows you to disable keyboard input except for searching tracks).

Don't get me wrong: I am not interested in having a Traktor-influenced Rekordbox performance software. I like the GUI and the option to hook up your Pioneer gear (There's other software that requires a hardware "dongle" so you have to buy expensive interfaces or mixers).

@Marcus > The play-on-load occurs simply because you don't have the deck set to AUTO CUE.

As for the stopping when typing, try removing any keyboard shortcuts that don't have modifiers (like shift, control, command, etc).

Thank you, Pulse. I'll check that Auto Cue setting out. Removing the keyboard shortcuts is also a work around that might help big time.

Where is the Autocue setting located btw?

@Rikki > On the hardware, usually the TIME MODE / AUTO CUE button - press and hold and A.CUE will illuminate in the display.

Hi Pulse, sorry I forgot to say I have a DDJ RZ not a CDJ
