DDJ-SZ Right Deck(s) Lock Up

This started 5 months ago, I've had the SZ since its release.

First things first, this problem doesn't happen at every gig. It could be once every while (month or two) or twice-three times in one night.

When I'm playing, the right deck will suddenly stop being responsive. For instance, On deck two, the play function is disabled but jog wheel still works. No matter what you will not be able to play a song unless you HOLD the cue but I'm not going to hold a cue button through an entire song.

=================================

EXAMPLE VIDEO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eMhJDmJ5I6c

=================================

Now, a way to TEMP fix this is switching to deck 4, this allows you to do the opposite, you can play a track by pressing play but the jogwheel will not work (sucks for people who scratch like me)

So This is the first time this has happened, last night BOTH decks (2 & 4) have locked up leaving with NOTHING. No tracks will play, no right decks will play AT ALL.

How to fix it!? Only solution to fix the problem is turning the unit controller off and back on.

Only problem is, i can't do that in a middle of a set. Unplugging the USB & Restarting Serato DJ will not work. Powering off the unit is the only solution.

What do you recommend I do? Can you send a replacement while mine gets sent out to get fixed? I can't afford to be without a unit when i have 3+ gigs a week. Large events too

Thanks for your time and efforts on resolving this issue, hopefully we can come up with a solution.

Hey Ryan,

Sorry you're having this issue. I recommend taking the following troubleshooting measures before sending your SZ for repair.

1.  Make sure you're running the latest version of Serato DJ. (Currently 1.9.0)

2.  Make sure you're SZ has the latest version of firmware installed.

3.  I see you're using a MacBook Pro.  If you're running El Capitan or Yosemite, make sure you download and install the proper SZ driver for your OS.

I think taking these steps will solve your issue.  Please let us know the outcome.  Thanks!

Everything is and have been updated. It's confusing as to why it's acting up only sometimes. Do you recommend uninstalling the drivers and reinstalling them? Or will installing it again overwrite any existing driver

@Ryan > It's possible there is a hardware fault, but if it's resolved by cycling the power, I'm guessing more of a circuitboard problem than a physical switch problem.

There are 3 things I'd like you to try:

1) Try using a different USB cable

2) Try using the B port if you typically use the A port

3) Try both the above with a different computer

If you can let us know the results that would help narrow things down. Thanks.

Hi,

I've got the exact same issue with my DDJ-SB.
Right deck freezes after ~3 hours, left deck works flawlessly.
got the latest drivers and firmware.

btw: i'm using a windows7 laptop & VDJ
tried switching cables, tried different usb slots, tried different socket, tweaked the windows settings....

weird thing is: this only happens in exactly one location in one particular DJ booth. I'm djing in 3 different locations on a regular basis (+ at home) and this only ever happens in one of em.

@Tobi > Have you considered that there might be AC power issues at that location? May be worth investigating with a device like a Kill-a-Watt.

Oh my god you guys are probably right. It's only at ONE location too!!!! Same place never an issue anywhere else. Where can I get these adapters!?

that might very well be the case. i am the only dj ever bringing a controller afaik. a friend of mine uses serato with cdjs as controllers and never has any problems. i always have to switch to cdjs + usb sticks everytime my right deck cuts out. u think, disconnecting some unnecessary units could help? i'm thinkin of a small fridge e.g. (all other locations don't have a fridge;) )
i'll be djing there tonight again.
will keep you updated.

@Tobi > If that refrigerator shares a circuit with the other gear, then it's a very likely culprit as when the compressor kicks in, the power dip in that circuit could cause other, more sensitive, equipment like the DDJ to freak out momentarily.

If you have the ability to check for other electrical circuits or even use a power conditioner (one with automatic voltage regulation) that may help.

@Ryan > The Kill-a-Watt is really just a simple plug that helps you identify what the power conditions are, it doesn't trace or create a history / log of any kind (those tools are stupid expensive). You can find the KaW on Amazon for pretty cheap.

What if a fog machine shares the same circuit. Could that be a reason too? It's constantly on and off

Yeah, same thing -- any electrical appliance that has a large draw could cause a power dip to disrupt electronics. Certainly worth investigating if that's related to the issue.

Played a 7+ hours gig last night. Unplugged the refrigerator beforehand. Also checked the power supply line and found a power strip covered in dust, so i cleaned that up.

-> no issues \o/

Hey, that's awesome, too bad your drinks were warm. ;)

Let us know if the issue returns.

I have the same issues, but I have already tried everything and above, New cables, UPS, powered usb hub, new OS, new drivers. It just freezes out of nothing, still have this issue and it seems it cannot be resolved. I have to restart the controller, the video and stream continues, but no audio.

Very very annoying.

@Olaf > Sorry to hear about that - it could be an issue with macOS and the 4.0 drivers, but I'll direct you to please file an inquiry ticket here and our support team will gather some additional information to assist you in resolving this issue.
