Rekordbox Export to USB 3.0 unacceptably painfully slow

OH. MY. GOD.

SeratoDJ user here. Decided to pop my Rekordbox cherry at a gig this weekend as decided to use the Nexus at club instead of my timecode vinyl so downloaded & installed 4.2.4, analyzed a bunch of playlists (which was fast enough) and am now 'exporting' to USB....

...WHAT. THE. FUNK!??  HOW SLOW IS THIS PROCESS?

I'm using a Macbook Pro w/ 32GB RAM & USB 3.0 ports... a Samsung USB 3.0 Flash Drive (upto 130 MB/s... averages 50MB/s) formatted to FAT32   I thought it must be a problem specific to my setup, so Googled and discover its a rampant issue since many releases ago!?

This is unacceptably slow  --  How do you Rekordbox *exclusive* DJs work with this?!?

PioneerDJ, how the hell do you guys get away with releasing software like this?  Don't you even have a QA dept?

WOW.

@ra > As others have noted, the speed of your USB drive is the single most important factor of the overall performance of the export. A slow drive will be the bottleneck that causes a slow export.

Can you tell me the model of that Samsung drive?

it is slow but I bought a fast enough USB 3 drive to make up for it, exports 40,000 tracks (as a test) in under 2 hours, thats pretty quick considering the amount of data per track it needs to write, its not just exporting tracks but lots of data per track, a bulk write of 1 file is quick but when you have to write 5 files per 1 song it obviously slows down the write speed

as a test with a new flash drive I just bought, I just exported 1000 tracks in 6 minutes, not too bad

Lots of factors play into the speed of data transfer–the total amount of data being transferred, the type (and manufacturer) of the drive, the drive's chipset, the USB speed of the drive, etc. Rekordbox "exclusive" DJ's work with this by allocating plenty of time well in advance of our performance to export the tunes.

First sign this guy may not know what he is talking about. He has a MacBook Pro with 32 GB of RAM?

thanks for all replies...  initial export was definitely painfully slow but this morning i've since updated cues & added some extra files etc and its indeed light years faster.

just to clear things.. wasn't having a go at 'reckordbox exclusive' djs (thats stupid).. i was merely curious if this indeed was your only format used, and if that was the *usual* transfer times, then how you guys coped? -- as i know theres always times when we need/want to add last minute tracks/playlists that all.  i sensed some defensiveness (cough @lostinthesound)...  so yeh apologies, wasn't having a go mate.. tone gets lost in translation

pioneer support.. i do apologise to you guys tho.  the line about QA was unnecessary!  was just frustrated.

and @deejaydave 100%, my bad.. its 16GB.  that being said you don't know me, what i know nor what i do.  i'm guessing you're a 'deejay' tho right?  cool bro!

anyway all.. thanks for taking time to reply... look fwd to giving this a go tonight

cheers

I don't think either of use know what you are doing...........

Just teasing though I promise. You obviously knew enough to recognize things weren't moving long fast enough. Glad to see things worked themselves out. Also have you tried different formats other than Fat32 as it is often slower (read/write) compared to others.

lol.    nah mate, i just figured FAT32 was the only *safe* format (or in all honesty , it was what friends told me they used!)  --  nope, as per usual didnt bother reading any manuals  :\  what format do you guys recommend?

also..  on a side note -- the analysed beat grids on this thing is a whole other story!!!  *ducks for cover*

Also, FAT32 is 100 times slower in the export process then OS X Jounaled, My buddy has the same laptop and drive as I do and was complaining about USB3 speed, I told him that its so fast yet his was taking literally hours to transfer 1-2 playlists (1500 or so tracks) once he formatted the drive to OS X it transferred those same 2 playlists in under 9 minutes. Why is that? people should be made aware of this, I always defended the speed but now I see what people are complaining about, writing to FAT32 even on USB3 is soooooooooooo slooooooooooow

Rekordbox 4.2.5

With a 128GB PNY Elite USB 3.0 Flash Drive @ a listed write speed of up to 180MB/sec, it has currently taken over 24 Hours and counting to export 15GB. I had the same problem when drive was formatted fat 32, this time I erased the disk and reformatted in mac OS X , same thing. also this is the 2nd thumb drive I've tried (Much better faster than the 1st) same problem. Laptop is Mac pro running 10.11.6, 2.8Ghz I7, 16 GB 1600 MHz DDR3. I shouldn't be having this issue. What is going on ? I understand the process, so I really don't know what else to do. Been dealing with this for 4 entire days. Any realistic suggestions would be helpful. Please keep in mind, I've already re-installed the software and re-anylised all files.

Hey Pioneer? any idea when Windows NTSF will be supported on all CDJ/XDJ's is

FAT32  the only format that can be used on your USB-drives to play on your CDJ/XDJ's

would be real nice to see this in an upgraded software or a Firmware update.....

and YES FAT32 to painfully SLOW even on my  WD 1T SSD USB drive

Update.......

switched drives again from the PNY Elite to A Sandisk Extreme USB 3.0 and everything seems to be working fine now. Just exported 16GB in about 3 Min. Pioneer ....Maybe U should create a list of compatible drives or maybe brand your own. Just wasted 3 days and 200 bucks on two flash drives that weren't compatible.

Hi guys,

I red trough all posts in ghia thread. Is it right to assume that rekordbox has copability issues with my usb drive?

I have a Kingston Hyper-X USB 3.0 / 350mbs usb stick
This is formatted to FAT32
2015 model of mac book pro

Last night i spent 2.hours moving 1000 tracks, what should i do? Get a cheep sandisk?
If i copy tracks manually to the drive speed is amazing, trough rekordbox its like glue!!

Best

Update: I bought a SanDisk 64GB USB 3.0 stick today and i transferred 400 tracks in minutes. This makes no sense at all when the kingston hyper-x drive has a write speed at 250mbs or so?

Rekordbox / PioneerDJ - Any suggestions on how i can get the proper read / write speeds?

Rekordbox version is latest

The write speeds are not dictated by rekordbox - it's entirely on the drive hardware (memory chips and control chip), the file format of the device (FAT32 vs. HFS+) and the operating system itself.

You can test your drive's read/write speed with Xbench on Mac or CrystalMark for Windows.
