DDJ 1000 vs XDJ RX2

Hello guys,

I'm willing to start mixing techno music and my goal is to start mixing music in some techno clubs in Bucharest.

Until the release of the new DDJ 1000 I was thinking to buy the new XDJ RX2 ( even so in the near future I don't see myself using video future from RX2 )

DDJ 1000 looks great but I don't know which one is better for my needs. Can anyone  please explaine me which are the big differences between this two devices ?

Any help/advice is really appreciate.

Thanks a lot for your time.

XDJ RX2

- Is a standalone unit (you don't need a laptop to play from it although you play from a laptop if you wish)
- 2 channel mixer
- Has a 7" display built into the unit
- Doesn't have full size jogs
- 1x usb laptop connection

DDJ-1000
- Is not a standalone unit (you have to connect a laptop)
- 4 channel mixer
- No 7" display built in but there is a customisable display in each of the jogs
- Jog wheels are full size (same as a CDJ-2000)
- 2x usb laptop connections (so two people could play on separate laptops)

The mixer in both of these units is standalone so you could connect turntables or CDJs to them. If you did this on the DDJ-1000 you wouldn't have to connect a laptop to play from the CDJs or turntables that you have connected to it.

I had the rx2 and sold it. I bought the ddj-1000 instead and am much happier. The rx2 was too heavy and I found djing from USB a bit finicky so didn't use it. A few things were missing or awkward from the rx2 functionality wise. Also I much prefer the full size jog wheels on the ddj.

Hope that helps you decide.

Same story here. I had sleepless night because of this choice. Finally decided to sell my rx2 and bought the DDJ. For me just the reason because rekordbox works much better with the DDJ. I had some lag problems with the rx in midi mode. But in your case I think that the RX2 suits you. You want to play techno in clubs so you probably gonna use usb sticks most of the time. You need to get familiar with the rx2 screen and workflow. When you play in the clubs you probably just gonna need your USB and use the Cdjs from the venue. The rx2 workflow is more equal with the clubstandaard. For example the screen on the rx2 is exactly the same as the newest cdjs nexus 2. In the other hand the jogs of the ddj are exactly the same as the one on the cdjs. But if you get to much used of working with the big waveforms on your laptop screen and all the effects of recordbox you maybe don't train yourself with the smaller screens with less information. It's a difficult choice. But you can't go wrong with both of the players. I find these two the best players under the clubstandaard now. I hope that this make it a little bit easier for you. Good luck

I forget to tell that I am a mobile dj and carry always my laptop with me. I play all genres and for this it's much easier searching in performance mode than on a USB stick. Also the new functionality with dmx lighting in rekordbox helps me decide for the ddj.

You can perform a word search for tracks on the RX2 using the touchscreen keyboard, but it is easier on a laptop, I would never use the RX2 in MIDI mode, it kinda defeats the purpose of being standalone, you can also connect a computer via USB and use it as a library (big USB key) in export mode meaning you can search for tacks on your laptop and drag them to the deck.

I don't like the ddj series stuff myself pioneer use the cheaper channel faders which feel very stiff and not ideal for cutting or fast movements, the cross fader is nice enough but channel faders was a deal breaker on the ddj rx/ ddj 1000
Xdj rx2 has a lot more money spent on components, also if you was to service a ddj unit yourself you'll struggle as 1000s of screws and too much to do to get inside
