DDJ-SP! with DDJ-1000 Fx control confusion

I have the DDJ-1000, I came from Traktor NI controllers.  I cant get used to the channel switching and want instant fx with knobs where I don't have to think about switching for a deck to use certain fx.. So I just got the ddj-sp1 , with the assumption that fx1 unit will be used for Deck 1 and fx unit 2 will be used for deck 2.This works fine until I plug in my ddj-1000.  The deck selection for Unit 1 fx knobs seems to be controlled by the deck selection knob on the ddj-1000! Nothing happens when I press  the deck selection button on the ddj-sp1 for fx1.  Even in rekordbox the deck selection disappears.  FX unit 2 is fine.

What gives?  How do I bypass this, how I can dedicate unit 1 for fx1, and that it doesn't follow the deck assign switch from the ddj-1000?
