Sorry, that was how the engineers explained it to me for sharing with the users. I don't have any other information available.
Sorry Pulse, but your answer in https://forums.pioneerdj.com/hc/en-us/community/posts/360048216471-Firmware-Update-DDJ800 does not make sense to me.
According to page 8 of https://www.pioneerdj.com/-/media/pioneerdj/software-info/controller/ddj-800/ddj-800_midi_message_list_e1.pdf, the jog displays on the DDJ-800 are supported in MIDI mode. However, nothing happens when I send any of these MIDI messages with Traktor. I've also tried other MIDI programs.
It does work with the DDJ-1000 and XDJ-XZ in MIDI mode!
The only reason it works in Virtual DJ is because it sends the required SysEx messages to put the controller in HID mode.
So the issue is not with third-party DJ software, as your own documentation says it should work in plain MIDI. It's either a bug in the firmware, or the jog displays have been deliberately disabled in MIDI mode because it's a cheaper controller.
Please look into this. Thank you in advance.

Thanks. Apparently this was already reported in ticket #147606 in October 2019 and confirmed by Gabriel as an issue. So I do hope it will be looked at.
