djm 450 - impossible to record a mix to my computer running on Windows 10

Hello team,

My configuration :

- brand new DJM 450

- computer : Windows 10 64 bits – latest update installed – Pioneer DJM 450 64 bit USB driver downloaded from your site and installed

- pieces of software on which I’ve tried : - adobe Audition 1.5, Rekordbox 4.2.5, Stereo Tool 8.12

I just bought a DJM 450 and I tried to connect it to my computer from its USB output to record a mix.

Now, the signal does goes through the computer but I can get no sound from the mixer with most of the options of the setting utility

What is working is – from the scroll-down menu – mixer output - of the setting utility:

USB ½ - Post Fader 1 and Cross fader A and Cross fader B . OK. The other options from USB ½ deliver a signal but no sound. Please notice that Rec out does work but not properly : I can only get the sound of the above-mentioned options when selected. Impossible to get both channels from the mixer at the same time.
All the other options from the control panel, whatever combination I have tried, deliver a signal to the computer but no sound at all.

Actions on my behalf :

uninstall/reload/ reinstall the driver as an administrator : KO
shutdown of the computer : KO
checked the ‘sounds’ settings of the control panel of Windows 10 – everything is normal

Tu sum up : yes, there is a signal from the mixer to the computer but no sound from the mixer can be heard for most options of the “mixer output” section of the drop-down menu in the setting utility.

Can it be a bug? Is an update going to be released?

Hey guys,

The problem is that you're using software that doesn't necessarily recognize the DJM-450's drivers because the application doesn't support ASIO. Instead, it's pulling the WDM or WASAPI drivers, which don't allow more than the first pair of inputs / outputs to be used by the application. By default, without rekordbox running, the recording output is set to outputs 5/6, which means that anything NOT using ASIO will be unable to use those outputs.

I just tested this using rekordbox, Virtual DJ, Traktor, and Ableton Live, all on Windows 10, and was able to record without issue. Audacity does NOT support ASIO out of the box, but can be configured to support ASIO devices by compiling it yourself, but will not be able to record from them otherwise.

I was lead to believe records are doing via Rekordbox in the Performance mode.

There seems to be a Pioneer Video which shows how to do this. Just using a different device but i guess its the same for any Pioneer device connected to Rekordbox via USB.

Not sure if this is of any help. But i'm interested to see how this works as i'm expecting my DJM-450 in the next few days.

thanks for your feedback.

I haven't been trying on Rekordbox. I need to register first with the product key provided with the mixer.

When It is done, I'll let you know.

The only thing I can do now to record my mix or stream music through Stereo tool is use the master output and connect it to my external soundcard - which is not very pratical, seeing that there's only one master volume knob on the mixer to feed both the amplifier and the computer.

So I have to keep the speakers at a low volume to avoid the volume being too loud and distorted as it's the same gain control for computer and amplifier even if I use the master 1 and master 2 outputs at the same time...

As far as my USB glitch is concerned, I hope it's just a driver bug and everything will be sorted out with the next firmware update.

Any news, Pioneer team?

01/02/2017 update :

I installed Rekorbox + product key provided with the mixer, and I'm able to record my mixes perfectly - no problem

So it only works if we're using Rekordbox -

But it's impossible to stream audio from the mixer for a live session owing to the above-mentioned reasons.

As I'd like to stream my mixes on a webradio, the situation will be very detrimental to me.

I just sold my A&H Xone 42, and I never encountered that kind of a problem with the USB connection - mixer to computer - for live streaming.

Is there no alternative but to use Rekordbox with the DJM-450 or is it just a Windows 10 bug that will be fixed with the next firmware update?

Hi i found this on another page.

In order to configure it to record in other software, you'll need to assign the inputs to 5/6 as those are the only ones set to the REC. If you want, you can reconfigure it for 1/2 to be REC, which may be needed as some applications don't support ASIO.

I've got mine all setup now. However not had time to fully test it and play on it yet. But my USB recording via other application on my laptop isn't work. Need to investigate more and won't be able to do so until tomorrow as my daughter has currently highjacked my laptop.

But looking on google on my iPad I found this article this I shall work though tomorrow.. Unless you tell me you have already tried it.

i would also beleve this is not a firmware or a drive issues but more a local Windows configure issues and we just need to identify where is conflict is.
