Problem with MIDI Out

Toraiz MIDI out to synthesizer or instrument has outstanding implications but it just doesn't seem to completely work.

Ive used the exact advice given in this tutorial and when I hit the assigned pad I don't get to hear any of the sound that should be coming from the synthesizer. What could possibly be the issue here? all controls function, no sound playback while the same Synth works perfectly in sample mode.
