DJM450 keeps going into the red

I bought a brand new DJM450 and I have two XDJ1000s going into it. I have to turn the trim down to 10am or I get a hot signal. Also, everytime I use the Flanger and certain other effects, it puts it into the red even at 10am. I used this mixer at an event and a very experienced DJ thought it was very strange that we had to turn the trim down so much.

I still am under warrenty on this brand new mixer, and I really need to know if it is blown so that I can exchange for the exact same mixer. What would cause something like this? Ps. the XDJs are going into the line input. Please help. Thanks.

Have you updated the mixer to the newest firmware?  Also some mixers Trim Level can be lower than others, if 12 o'clock is the norm then it's a little lower, but leaving headroom is the roll of the Trim Level.  If the firmware is updated and the levels stay the same and are an issue you can contact Tech Support and see what they would like you to do.

Why is this a problem?  The trim goes all the way down to negative infinity or full cut.  You just don't like the way it looks?  Why are you not giving yourself sufficient headroom that you are ever going into the red?  Put your master out at unity so its meters are the same as the channel meters when the channels are at unity.  Put the trims wherever is necessary to get symmetrical bounce around the 0dBVu when the track is full-bore for about the same average volume from track to track and you shouldn't ever clip the mixer even with effects, assuming you're not jamming the EQs and volume faders for two tracks all the way up or at the same time.  Reasonable mixing habits and wide digital headroom are your friend.  Don't fear the trim.

With EQ at 12 o'clock, most of my track are happy with channels trim around 10 to 11 o'clock.
Never had issue with clipping or red leveling.

Also note that this mixer main output is only happy when the master is beyond 1 o'clock. Under 1 o'clock the sound is very dull (flat) with no dynamics at all. 2 o'clock seems like a sweet spot.

So lower the channels and crank the master.

Thank you for the friendly response! I have had a DJM300 and technics 1210s since 2006 and just now got xdj1000s with a pioneer djm450, so of course I am getting some growing pains. I don't see anything wrong with that. I found the sweet spot is for the trim to be 10 o'clock and the master to be 2 o'clock. I do a radioshow on dnbradio.com so I had to learn about the levels very quickly, and got it all sorted out! Thanks again for the confirmation, that was exactly what I was doing.
