Which CDJs are you using? Can you confirm that you're running the latest firmware on them?
The last couple folders on an external hard drive of mine, as well as one small folder somewhere in the middle of the list, show up as empty. Chkdsk in Windows shows no problems with the Fat32 file system. Folders are not empty. Files are not hidden. Proper formats for CDJs. Not an issue with overly long folder or file names. Both the drive directly connected and all the linked units show the same malady.

CDJ-900s.
Latest firmware.
Yepp, i have, but don't even go there bro!
There are ways to get rid of these bugs, but not many care to listen im afraid!
The MDJ-1000 and SC5000 have no problem seeing these folders, by the way.
What's the volume name, the full path to that folder, and the nature of the contents therein? Does the total length exceed 256 characters? Are there any special characters?
Not that I can tell. It is the last 7 folders in a long list, though, and 70+ thousand tracks.
So ... not going to provide the answers to those questions?
H:\Music\Other Music
H:\Music\PMA CDs All
H:\Music\Red Cruiser odds
H:\Music\UDDM
H:\Music\White Lexar odds
They're actually shorter and less weird folder names than the preceding 33-odd folders that show up fine.
I do notice that at least some of them in the SC5000 and MDJ-1000 show up as having no files in those main folders and only files in further subfolders, but that's just how the folders are structured and they're not missing any tracks. On the SC5000 I remember having to tap an extra time to get it to show the sub folders on those. Might just be a coincidence that it happens to be the case on a few of these. Some of these folders, though, have no subfolders and are just a few dozen tracks in there.
And again, these are the last folders in the directory Music. Music directory has nothing but MP3, WAV, and AIFF in it... not even cover art. Just music and folders. The parent drive directory has some folders for audio test files, a text file of all the tracks and their directories, and then the Pioneer, Denon, and Gemini analysis folders that I occasionally delete. Oh, and there's a zip of the last version of Rekordbox prior to KUVO.
I should also mention that these folders have no problem in the smaller drives that I have (flash drives) that they were copied from or from other drives that they've been copied to.
Appreciate the info - thanks! Yeah, those are pretty short. Is it just the last ones alphabetically? Do other folders which have no files but only sub-folders appear normally?
I think there's one or two folders a little higher in the list that do this too, but then it's just like 5 or six at the very end of the list. There are no folders substantially higher in the list that do this. There are other folders that have no music in their directory and only music in subfolders that show up just fine.
Any progress on this topic or advice?
Have you had this issue on other CDJs or only on the 900's?
The particular folders are not empty on the CDJ2000NXS2, and the contents are not FLAC or something else not supported on the original CDJ-900.
Thanks, I'll pass that along.
Any chance any of those folders have more than 10K songs in them?
The first folder in the CDJ-900s' browser that shows up empty is called Other Music and has all my not-quite-dance-music inside. There are 791 subfolders and 7,815 tracks within those internested subfolders inside Other Music. All the folders below Other Music in the list also show empty, but none of them come close to that many.
I did a gig recently with another guy and his CDJ-900s he said do the exact same thing as mine do with some of his drives.
This is also not a problem on the CDJ-2000NXS2. Every folder shows up on those players.
