I took a very quick look at the DJM 250 and didn't see anything about a built in sound card...If that's true then you must have an external sound card to hook up to between decks and Traktor (laptop).

If you are a Traktor user, I would look at a DJM that has a built in sound card and then compare the price to what it would cost you to go with a basic mixer and an external sound card like the NI Audio 6, 8, 10....

As for the X1, it is basically a controller to control Tracktor's decks and effects so once again, you need to figure out your mixer side.

Cheers

thanks a lot for the information, my friend just gave me a x1 and i already have traktor. I really like the djm 250 and its price!! the only other question i have is, can i use the NI audio 2 sound card for my basic setup ?

Correct, there is no soundcard built in to the DJM-250 - it is a very simple (and very robust) 2 channel mixer with a filter on each channel.

I think you can use the audio 2 and you will have to record directly to your computer using the tracktor record feature BUT I have a little doubt because I think you might actually need another input to route the REC to...Wait for someone else to correct me here if not I will do some research for you...

Why do you need the Audio2? Can't you just use Traktors record feature to record your mix?

Im gonna use the audio 2 to run traktor and the djm 250, and I'll also be using a x1 to control traktor, and I'll just record in traktor... this should work right??

@djherny > The Audio2 has no inputs, so no, you wouldn't be able to record your mix. You either need to get a different audio interface with an input, or record via another audio interface or to another computer.

Not sure if you solved this yet....

But here are the things to think about...

Traktor does have a Record "in the box" feature, which means you can record everything that you do within Traktor, even if using external controllers like the X1 or Z1 (Z1 has an internal sound card).

The problem with using a DJM 250 (Which I have) is that you are routing the signal "outside the box" to do the mixing part on the DJM 250's faders....Traktor cannot read what you are doing in the analog world (even though the DJM is digital, you are converting it to an analog out signal)

When you do that, you then need to route the signal out of the mixer and back into traktor (via an audio interface/external sound card) or another recording program.

I still use my CDJ 200s with my DJM 250 and am getting an X1....I've got some thinking to do, but ultimately I am thinking this will be my set up

DJM250 running the CDJ200s through the main channels.
Then an X1 running alongside a Z1 to control and mix everything in Traktor.

Then the Z1 will go into my aux inputs on my DJM250, so I can easily switch between Traktor and CDJ mixing.

The tricky part is the headphones...I will have to take them out of the DJM and plug them into the Z1 whenever I switch to do the cueing...I might do a splitter. I'll figure it out when I get to that point.

The recording and interface part is easy. I am audio engineer and have tons of ins and outs on my system, but want the z1 for portability.

The headphone part is what I need to figure out before I decide, finally, on the Z1.....

If any of you want updates when I figure it out or have "signal flow" type questions, ask and I will see if I can come up with something to help.

it's all solvable and we just need to try and do that by spending the least amount of money possible without sacrificing your sound quality and workflow ability.
