[CLOSED] DJM 900 Digital distortion issues?

hi guys,

looking for a bit of help here, im currently running a macbook pro version 10.6.8, using traktor pro version 2.6.0, using the inbuilt soundcard running a sample rate of 44100, with a X1 and F1 on the side, Brand new Dj tech tools USB cables, and also brand new xlr on my main out, i should also note that that music played is normally commercial, top 40 with all my music bought from itunes.

On 90-95% of my tracks when i play out i get what sounds like a slight bit of digital distortion on the high end, and virtually so little low end i compensate with boosting to freq to about 3-4 oclock on the mixer, The tracks dont sound FULL at all they sound as if they are on the verge of braking up, and they sound some what Hollow, if that makes sense.

IM wondering is this a computer issue im having? the mixer has the latest firmware installed and i am using the latest drivers, could i possibly need to reinstall Traktor? could it be as simple as cables or sample rates? I dj 4-5 nights a week using this mixer so i would really like to get the issue sorted, any help on it would be great or if anyone could shed a light or has had similar scenarios with it and how they over came it?

Thanks in advance........

Brian

@Brian > I think the only options here are to start removing parts of your setup and testing one by one until you narrow down what might be causing the problem.

Are you sure the problem isn't on the clubs side? Have you discussed the setup with the sound engineer there?

Hey Gavin, sorry its taken me a while to respond, had a meeting with the clubs sound engineer and we went through the club system, not a problem on there side anyway, i think the problem could possibly lie in audio cables i had made up for my master out of the djm, im gigging in that club tonight again so i will be able to check it with the new cables, i changed the sample rate and tested and that wasnt it, also changed the usb cables and again that wasnt the cause. All my drivers are updated and so is the firmware, I am running an older version of Traktor because i have not yet updated my Mac os, im currently on 10.6.8 that would hardly be the cause would it?

Ok just back from the club and the distortion was so bad at one stage i had to restart Traktor, had all my cables replaced before this happened, and wasnt running any background tasks that would mess with the audio.

I've experience a similar issue...is on the mixer side; not sure if it is a hardware issue on the mixer's soundcard or something that can be solved with a firmware update.

When using the DJM-900 as a soundcard for Traktor the sound quality is quite poor. I've tried it a couple of times and at the end O had to go back to use an external soundcard :(

This issue is holding me back to buy this mixer. I'm still hanging on my old DJM-800. I want to upgrade but this issue is  a deal-breaker for me at me moment and sad for Traktor users.

My performance rig is quite similar to your but I'm running Traktor 2.6.x (latest version) on a Macbook Pro 10.7.x (latest version), new USB cables from HOSA, Xone K2 and NI F1. Now, I travel with an additional soundcard and plug it into the club's DJM-900.

Yes i just spent a week going through my entire set up, ive reinstalled drivers, programs, changed usb cables and to no avail, i firmly believe this is on the mixer side of things, i tried an external soundcard myself last night and the sound was totally different, it actually sounded good! the reason i bought this was to be able to use the inbuilt soundcard so i would have 4 decks!! this will be going back to pioneer as soon as i can get it back!

You had the same result as me...is quite annoying to have to use another soundcard since the mixer already has one.

@Brian > Have you noticed any change in relation to this issue? Does the problem persist?

I've just had the same issue. Top end distorted and almost no low end. I had to change mixers mid show swapping to a djm800 and problem went away. I've not had a chance to see if I can replicate.
