[SOLVED] recording using the DJM-900 nexus?

hey guys, so i'm currently using a DJM-900 Nexus + 2x CDJ-2000 Nexus.. really loving the setup, but was a little confused about how I can go about recording a mix?

I currently use this setup with a USB flash drive.. previously, I had a Traktor Kontrol S2, and would record directly from Traktor software.. but since I'm not using Traktor anymore, I was hoping to see if there's a way that I don't have to switch my CDJ's into HID mode, and record my sets that way..

I don't mind having to plug my MacBook Pro into my DJM-900 via USB to record, but I really want to keep all of the mixing done on my DJM + CDJ's.. is there a way or a certain program that I need to get (I already own Traktor), where I can keep full CDJ display functionality, but still be able to record directly to my MacBook? I would really like to avoid having to purchase any additional external devices, if possible.. Thank you!

@Lud > You can record from the Nexus using the free Audacity software thats available for PC and Mac. You'll need to connect the mixer to your MacBook via a USB cable and then configure the settings.

You can watch Pulse configure the settings here: (note he does it on a DJM2000 but the steps are the same for the 900) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Hnq7M6g4hlA&feature=youtu.be

You can find the necessary downloads here: http://pioneerdj.com/support/product.php?lang=en&p=DJM-900NXS&t=111

Please try it out and if you have any problems, get back to us and we'll endeavour to help you.

still having some trouble here.. I went ahead and attached screenshots from my DJM-900Nexus Setting Utility and preferences windows of Audacity..

NOTE: I am using all digital outputs, so I have all my DJM-900 knobs set on "DIGITAL" (vs. CD/LINE, PHONO, USB).. ALSO, I am currently only using Channel's 2 & 3.. I have a USB cable going from my DJM-900Nexus into my MacBook Pro..

Are there any certain settings that I have set wrong on my computer end? And also, is there any further configuration that I have to physically do on the mixer end? Please let me know, thanks for all your help guys!!

Hey Lud - I'm def no expert with Audacity (I record in Logic), but your issue might be the mixer output tab in the settings utility. Right now you've got ch 2+3 on 'rec out' which I believe is a separate output from the USB. Try switching them to crossfade A+B and see if you have any luck.

Gavin - is it still necessary to change the output on the mixer in 'club settings' to -5db now that it's a separate dropdown in the utility? My signal's coming into Logic @ -5db per the utility setting even though I keep the club setting at -19db. Just curious if this has any impact to the signal.

@lud papp youve definately got too many channels allocated to rec out in mixer output on djm-900 settings utility, set it usb1/2 not 3/4 & 5/6 & check your mixers sample rate matches in club menu settings on the actual mixer as youve  got set to 96khz in audacity it maybe set to 48khz in mixer

Scratch my comment @Lud. I'm set up to record on multiple tracks in the software, which is a bit different.

Sorry to post crash but I am having a similar problem I am extremely frustrated with. I have everything set up the same as LUD, only I am using phono instead of digital.

My setup is: DJM900nexus, CDJ2000nexus, RMX1000 and S DJ08 speakers straight into the djm900nexus.

I am running my djm900 nexus into my laptop (Dell Latitude 6420) via the usb connection. I have the mixer output set to record out for channels 3 & 4 and the mixer input channel set to usb 1/2.

I have audacity set to djm900nexus for both input and output device. I have the sample rate set to 48kbps for everything but yet nothing records!

I spoke to someone at Pioneer today who told me the usb is only for input such as a midi controller and I am best to use the line-in?!

I am sure this isn't the case so is there any chance you can finally solve this problem I am having please?

All the best

neal same as lud you have too many channels set in rec out set it to usb1/2 not 3/4 as it doesnt refer to how many channels your using on mixer, just channels out of usb which is two left/right for stereo.

just so that i would never have to run into this problem again, i took screenshots of everything important to get audacity to work.. here are the settings i have in the Mixer Settings.. in my case, i use a digital connection (yellow cable), you may be using the red and white cables.. set that accordingly..

go into audacity, set the project rate at 96000, and both input and output as your mixer.. enjoy :)

T K P : Cheers for that, I've tested it this morning and it works the way you said! I am just confused to why the way videos on youtube show you (which is the same way as I presumed and set it up anyway) are different to this? Even stranger is Pioneer telling me I couldn't record this way when I called then?! Anyway, thanks again (",)
