Rekordbox Playlist to USB question and possible feature request

Hello...

I use a series of smart playlists in iTunes which ultimately allow me to go to a particular playlist to see everything in my collection that I can mix harmonically with my current playing track. So I have these 24 playlists bridged from iTunes to rekordbox. These 24 playlists are how I browse my music.

By the way I built these playlists, 1 individual track will fall into 6 of the 24 playlists because that track will be harmonic with 6 different keys. My question is, when dumping these playlists to a flash drive, does rekordbox then try to make 6 copies of each file on the flash drive?

I am having a nightmare of a time trying to send these playlists to a 32gb flash drive when the playlist set only contains 20gb of files.

All 24 playlists are in a playlist folder and when I drag that folder to the flash drive, it takes about 12hrs and then starts giving me 'not enough space' errors and stops. Then I can see all 24 playlists on the drive but only the first 10 will be full of tracks and the rest empty.

So then I tried a different method. I tried only dumping all the songs making up the playlists only without sending the actual playlist info... so each individual track would be on the flash drive first. This is 20gb of music, about 1200 tracks. This took about 6 hours to send to the flash drive. Then with all the physical tracks already on the drive, I tried to send over the playlists which should only draw from the tracks already on the flash drive. I was hoping it would then fly thru the process because the tracks are already there, but no... It took another 12 hours resulting in 'not enough space' and stopped. resulting in empty playlists on the drive.

When rekordbox is sending the playlists to the flash drive, it says it is sending over 11k songs when I know there is only 1200 songs making up the playlists.

FEATURE REQUEST: It would be a dream come true for me if I could put these 24 playlists on my drive and then be able to tell the drive to sync/u[date those 24 playlists with the playlists in the Rekordbox collection. So each time I add new music, it filters into the 24 playlists, then I could plug in the drive and it would automatically add the new songs to each playlist.

A sync is already in the works, will be in a future version of the software.

Provided your track exists in one playlist, it can exist in every playlist you ever create and only have one physical copy on the drive.  It's possible that you have a bunch of garbage on the drive; I'd suggest reformatting the drive and try again - the hidden Pioneer folder contains all sorts of stuff that may be causing the problem.

Thanks. Nice to know the sync feature is coming!

My last attempt was with a freshly formatted drive. After formatting, I dumped all the tracks contained in the playlists to the drive. Then tried to add the actual playlists all at once, hoping it would fly thru as the tracks are already there. No luck...

But I think I may have just thought of what the problem might be... When I look at the flash drive in rekordbox, and I click on a playlist on the flash drive, rekordbox displays the track count and disc space for that playlist in the bottom right info area... In this case being 655 tracks, 3.1 days,  9.6 GB. So if rekordbox thinks I am trying to add 24 playlists at X.X GB a piece, it may be thinking there is not enough disc space when in reality there is because the entire collection is only 20GB and every single track in my collection resides in 6 playlists.

If rekordbox somehow thinks it needs the disk space for the sum of each playlist's disc space, it may think I am trying an impossible task. Rekordbox is obviously totaling each playlist's disc space... Does it affect disc space required during sync?

I have the same problem. Tried formatting my USB and then starting again but even though my music collection is considerably smaller than the capacity of the drive, there isn't enough space apparently for it to all fit on. I have multiple smart playlists for different styles, genres, intensity, key etc and I suspect as per the original poster that if a track appears multiple times then it takes up space on the USB in the same multiple of times..... anyone else have the same problem?

This is not a bug, and having the same song in multiple playlists doesn't copy the source song multiple times. Each track has several additional support files that go along with it, and there's also the database, so the total space required will be larger than just the songs themselves.

Hi, I'm having the same problem.

On the carpet of playlist that i have on itunes, the data indicates 80GB (aprox). On Rekordbox, the same carpet of playlist indicates 220GB. And I export to my pendrive and take much time longer. Is there a configuration that Rekordbox read the same data storage than Itunes?

Thanks in advance.
