[SOLVED] DDJ-S1 problems???? Help

So  I have had a few issues with the DDJ-S1 and I am on the verge of sending it in.  Maybe someone can shed a little light on my issues or might be experiencing the same issues.

First off, the power supply (cord) has failed and the DDJ-S1 would lose power and no sound from the XLR outputs.   So I went to Radio Shack and bought another power supply and it seems to be working fine…..

Though, I just reconnected the DDJ-S1 in my studio after a gig and no sound coming from the XLR outputs??  Though the power supply(I bought) is working though it seems the sound is not coming from my cables???  Please note when it was hooked up this way earlier in the week it was working fine.

I am using XLR(female) from the DDJ-s1 to ¼” male into the mixer.  No sound???   Yes everything is turned up the master, the gain and the gain knob on the back of the mixer.  Please note it was working before.

Used a regular XLR to XLR and got sound.  Ok, so I figured maybe my cables went bad, though it was hard for me to believe both cables went bad at the same time.  So I tested the cables on something else and both cables worked.

So I reconnected the XLR to ¼” to the DDJ-S1 into my Presonus mixer and once again no sound?  Please note again it use to work.

So I figured I would try some different combinations using the cables just to see what would happen.  Please see below different combinations and results.

DDJ-S1 – XLR(female) to ¼”  went into direct box came out DI box XLR to XLR into mixer = No Sound

DDJ-S1- XLR to XLR  into mixer = sound

DDJ-S1 – RCA (yuck) into mixer = Sound

So I am not sure why my XLR to ¼” isn’t working, because it use to work.  And please note, I checked both XLR to ¼ “ cables on other gear and was able to get sound.

If you are wondering the ¼ “ is unbalanced though that shouldn’t make a difference since it worked before.

Though at the moment I do not have another XLR(female) to ¼” male cable to try it so that is one test I have not done but if the cables work on other gear why wouldn’t they work now or on the DDJ-S1?

Very odd and this isn’t the first issue I have had so I am not sure if I should send it in to Pioneer to get looked at.

Suggestions?

Also I am running a Macbook Pro Mac OS X 10.6.8  2.8GHz core 2 Duo

8 GB ram, Serrato itch version 2.0.1

please help

I'm guessing you may have a crossed hot/ground or hot/neutral in your XLR-to-1/4".  Try another cable if it's only with that cable it's not working, the unit is not at fault.

Well like I stated before it use to work and I just hooked up the cables in question to my Rane Sixty-Eight and they work.  And wouldn't you know it I don't have any other freaking XLR (Female) to 1/4" male cables in my studio, I have the reverse but I don't even have any barrels.  FML (LOL) .. the test will continue.  I have a bad feeling it is the DDJ-S1.

Again, because it works just fine with an XLR-to-XLR, I'm thinking the cable is the issue.

OK, Well I tried a different cable and it works????  No I am really confused now because the cables in question work on my Rane Sixty-Eight Mixer just fine.  Also the cables use to work with the S1.   Just crazy.....  I even checked the cables in question with a cable tester and they are fine????

Like I said, could be a problem with the wiring of the cables; a tester may show them as okay because the signal still flows, but they may be reversed.

Manuel,

You need to make sure you are using your power supply with the DDJ-S1 for the XLR cables to work.

Though I have had a few issues with the controller that i am not 100% sold on the unit.  When it works it works great though.

I wonder if some of the units have a flaw.  I was using XLR – ¼” and it was working for w few months in my studio.  Then I did a small gig but used XLR-XLR to plug into the mixer at the gig and all went well.

Though when I got home and hooked the DDJ-S1 up how I previously had it and no sound.   The thing that was odd is both cables didn’t work but worked on other gear and had been working.  Though XLR-XLR worked fine, then I connected the cables that didn’t work on the DDJ-S1that use to work, the XLR-1/4” to my Rane Sixty- Eight mixer and it worked fine.  Please note I am connecting everything to my Presonus Studio Live mixer.

Read my original post above, it explains what I did.  I am not newbie to this stuff either; I have been in the Audio video industry for over 20 years and a night club DJ for 13 years.

Please also note I had an issue with the original power supply as well.  I bought another power supply from radio shack and it seems to be working .  I was having an issue were the controller would lose AC/DC power.

Maybe something is wrong with a few but until it is completely dead I probably will not send it in.  The only reason I am not sending it in is the fact I cannot always recreate the issue.  I am afraid if I send it in and Pioneer cannot create the same problem or if it works fine at their facility they will just send it back thinking I am a moronJ

Owell, only time will tell.

@Manuel > Have you checked to see what the hot / neutral / ground pin configuration is on your speaker as compared to the DDJ?

@DJ Kobi > It's best to start your own thread as this is a different issue.

Have you tried using different latency settings within the software?

Give it a try and play around with the latency settings and if you're still having troubles, please start a new thread. :)

i've had the DDJS1 since April 1, 2011, and use it regularly without issue. Over the past month, though, it's been erratic with powering on. Each time, I've removed and reinserted the power cable and the USB cord, closed and restarted Itch software and tried turning on the controller again. Sometimes it magically comes on, often times it doesn't. Going to get a new power cable if I can find one at Radio Shack, but this seems like an avoidable issue - is this a common complaint among DDJS1 users?

@May > That sounds odd. I've never heard of this with the DDJ-S1.

But it might be good to start your own thread in the future too as it's easier to find and can relate to your specific issue.

Please reply with the results the new power cable as well. If no luck, please start that new thread. ;)

@Amin > I'm not exactly sure how ITCH recognizes the controller, but is there a way to re-import the mapping and load it again?

Also, it's usually best to start your own thread if the topics aren't related. :)

Why don't people ever start their own threads?

@Amin > Try checking the recording file location.

@Guilherme > Please open your own thread, detailing as much information as you can about your setup - Operating System / Computer Specs etc - and how you configured the audio setup. What software and hardware you are using would also be helpful.
